PRESENTATION SKILLS Teens As Teachers

As a TEEN TEACHER You have to TALK If you can express your thoughts and interests clearly and logically to others, they will listen to you and even want to know more about what you are teaching. A major part of your SUCCESS as Teens as Teachers depends on your ABILITY TO SPEAK

PUBLIC SPEAKING STEPS Develop your Self Confidence Don’t be fearful Kids can sense fear and when and if they do they go to devour! Research Know as much as you can about your lesson It’s ok not to know everything; you are learning as well Present your Lesson Don’t fidget with clothing Stand straight Don’t rock back and forth Look directly at your students Talk loudly and don’t rush through your speech

GESTURES & VOICE STEPS A Good Speaking Voice: Is natural Is strong, even when not loud Is easily heard Does not sound emotionless Tone is pleasant and friendly Good Gestures: The most expression should be with the hands and arms to illustrate your words Size, weight, shape, direction, location: All of these call for hand gestures such as shaping of the hands or pointing “HE WENT THAT WAY”

WORD CHOICE STEPS Eliminate these Words: Like Ummm Ahh You know what I’m saying Instead, Try these Words: Basically Actually Literally I think that You know What I’m trying to say is I KNOW IT’S GOING TO BE HARD AT FIRST BUT PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT

THINK BACK Teens As Teachers Think about your favorite teacher, mentor, leader, etc... Why were they your favorite teacher? Write down some qualities they had, and what you hope to take from what they taught you to this teaching experience.
