What is Web 1.0? Websites, newsletters One person or organization sending content to many people via websites or newsletters. The process is not interactive. It’s one-way communication.

What is Web 2.0? Blogs, wikis, social networking sites One person or organization publish content on social networking site People can post comments and converse with your organization in public for all to see Two-way communication

Web Web 2.0 = Integrated Web Communications Both Webs are complimentary Build and serve one another No one replace one another. They can also overlap.

GoogleDocs Google Docs is a free, Web-based office suite and data storage service by Google. Allows to create and edit documents online while collaborating in real- time with other users. Storage up to 1GB

GoogleDocs NEW: My Drive is the home for all your files. With Google Drive for your PC, you can sync files from your computer to My Drive

Advantages of Googledocs Access to files anywhere with Internet access Documents are saved to Google’s servers Easily share files with other Google account users Automatically saves file while typing

Disadvantages of Googledocs Limited formatting ability Can experience lag during "peak" hours, usually during the day Cannot be accessed offline

GoogleSites Google Sites is the easiest way to create a website. Templates are built-in and easy to manage People can work together on a Site to add file attachments

Advantages of GoogleSites Free Fast and easy to edit No programming or database skills required (Ideal for beginners) No software installation required

Diadvantages of GoogleSites Limited functionality compared to other website builders Only 100 MB of storage Apps only limited to Google apps only. URL must begin "sites.google.com/site/" which is to long for a website

BLOGS A personal journal published on the World Wide Web Consists of multiple entries: “posts” Posts are typically displayed in reverse chronological order so the most recent post appears first

Advantages of Blogs Freedom to communicate Share knowledge with others Can be used as a diary The possibility to place 'Comments' makes a Blog as highly 'Interactive'

Disadvantages of Blogs Time: Before starting to write a blog, keep in mind the amount of time you'll need to keep it updated Critics: Be prepared to face criticism. After all, the whole point of a blog is to share an opinion

Wikis A website whose users can add, modify, or delete its content via a web browser Can be developed collaboratively by a community of users Source of information gathering and knowledge sharing

Advantages of Wikis Development of communication skills Collaboration which builds a community of learners Opportunities for "active-learning" activities Teachers can view ‘recent changes’ on the student’s Wikis which assists the assessment processes

Disadvantages of Wikis If not updated periodically, content may become obsolete If not managed properly, open to spam and vandalism Flexibility of a wiki's structure can lead to disorganized information

Disadvantages of Web 2.0 Need to keep it constantly updated Many blogs/wikis/Googlesites are not updated, thus damaging rather than enhancing the reputation of the organization The public is able to look at your work Think about the privacy settings Who can post, view, comment

Attention! Get parental permission Tell students about the school policies Avoid sharing any personal information Educate your students about what is appropriate Teach the importance to respect others’ opinions

Ethics and Safety Ethics involves the appropriate and responsible use of the computer networks and Internet. Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) should include: Statement that states that Internet use is a privilege Statement of educational use and advantages List of responsibilities of teachers, students and parents Standards of behavior acceptable and unacceptable Description of consequences of violation Disclaimer absolving the school

Conclusion Technology is continuously changing and expanding Web 2.0 provides opportunities for  Learning  Sharing  Collaborating How to integrate technology is more important than which technology to use
