WELCOME TO LATVIA…

Who are the students we are working with?

What steps our pupils had to make to participate in Comenius Project and to have an opportunity to go to London? Their average semester mark had to be 7 or higher No marks below 4 during the semester Step 1: All together we had 47 qualified pupils (8th to 12th grades). They had to participate in the meeting which took place on January 12. Only those pupils who attended the meeting and were qualified according to Step 1 had the chance to take part on the following work. 24 pupils came for the meeting and 20 of them were interested in further participation in the project. Step 2:

Have you ever visited a museum in another place? (teachers)

Have you ever visited a museum in another place? (students) Other mentioned Museums : Art Museum of Ukraine Vatican Museum in Rome Isakjivskas cathedral in St. Petersburg

As most of our pupils are adults, they work and have families, the questionnaires were difficult to obtain. Have you ever visited a museum in another place? (parents)

The questionnaire data shows that pupils visit museum more seldom than the teachers do. There can be several reasons such as lack of finances or interest. Unlike pupils, teachers have attended museums 100% more often.

If you are going abroad, you prefer...

Do you know what museums can offer to people (teachers)?

Do you know what museums can offer to people (students)?

For some pupils school is probably the only institution which gives an opportunity to visit museums (to prepare the materials for biology, history and culture classes, as well as other subjects within the framework).

Did you ever read further or buy a museum album or an informative booklet when visiting a museum?

The aim of the project is to expand students' visual range and create opportunities for visiting the museums, to let pupils (themselves and with help of teachers) get interested into the information museums offer and to involve another pupils into the work.

What will we be doing during the visits of the museums?... and... Where will we go?

At this meeting the aims and responsibilities were divided: 1. To make two working groups and visit two museums; The Sun Museum and Ethnographical Open-Air Museum 2. To sum up answers in the questionnaires

The Sun Museum February 18 This is the beginning of the cooperation with the museums This is the newest museum in Latvia, it has been chosen because it covers and is characterizes not only Latvia but also other countries in the world! The sun is only one for all of us!

We would like to invite you to this museum and it would be very nice if you come to the Sun museum bringing a symbol of the Sun from your country. Moreover, every visitor will get a little present from the museum!

It is needless to tell and show everything. It is much more interesting when you’ll visit the museum by yourselves. We have to say that the cooperation with the owner and author of the museum Iveta Grazhule was very pleasant and creative...

The next meeting – creation of our presentation

Open-Air Ethnographical Open-Air Museum on February 24 Museum offers you to have a look at something little ancient, Latvian history and to practice some ancient handicraft activities for participants. You will be acquainted with the Latvian traditions and to take some self-made objects with you to your country.

We have signed a cooperation agreement with this museum.

We are awaiting you on the first week of October!

Thank you for your attention!
