Expressions of Tener The verb tener is used in several expressions. Tener is used to express: Age Ex. ¿Cuántos años tienes? How old are you? Tengo quince años. I am fifteen years old. The expression tener que + infinitive is used to express: “to have to” Ex. Tengo que estudiar. I have to study.

Ir a + infinitive The expression ir a + infinitive is used to express what is going to happen in the near future “to be going to” Ex. Vamos a estudiar. We are going to study.
