DEFINITIONS OF ISSUES A COLLEGE- A constituent unit of the University consistent with the UOTIA and offers Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates and enjoys Administrative, Academic and Financial semi autonomous status. A SCHOOL- This is an Academic Unit of a College engaged in Teaching, learning, research and knowledge and technology transfer partnerships based on a focused body of Knowledge.

DEFINITIONS CONT’ INSTITUTE- This is a unit of a college which is largely research based CENTRE – This is a unit of a college, which is largely focused on service and knowledge transfer partnerships DEPARTMENT-This is a unit of a school that deals with core functions of teaching, learning and research functions of a particular focused discipline

DEFINITIONS CONT’ UNIT-this refers to the lowest administrative entity irrespective of its size SECTION- This is the lowest operational unit within a college ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES- This is series of structured courses in an approved curriculum leading to Award of a degree. SUBJECT-a particular area of subjects which has courses in it. COURSE- this is a series of lectures or other methods of instruction.

NON-TEACHING UNITS DIRECTORATE- this is a multi-structured unit solely coordinating core or support functions DIVISION-this is a unit where the core or mission related activities of the university takes place

ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS FOR COLLEGES Mainly three or four in exceptional circumstances (Central college and School layers) Deputy Deans should be abolished Principal will have one Deputy Principal A Department will be headed by a Chair

ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS FOR COLLEGES CONT’ Administrative duties to be concentrated under the principal’s office (Bursar, Registrar, HR, Procurement, Resource Mobilization…) Deans will hold lean Academic functions All administrative arrangements at department and sections level to revert to principal’s office
