3 EMIA DEFINITION Partially compensate SA exporters for costs incurred to: Develop export markets for SA products & services. Recruit new foreign direct investment into SA.

7 ACTUAL ASSISTANCE Assistance is provided on the following basis: Travel (economy class); Daily subsistence; Transport of samples for specific events; Development of marketing materials for specific events; Exhibition costs relating to stand rental, stand design and set up costs; rental of furniture Costs of brochures; Project funding.

INDIVIDUAL PARTICIPATION Individual Exhibition and In-Store Promotion –Individual Exhibition (IE) – Assistance is granted to individual exporters to exhibit products at recognised exhibitions –In-store promotion - Assistance is granted to groups of five or more SMME or HDI manufacturers to showcase specific South African manufactured products in targeted retail outlets abroad. 8

INDIVIDUAL PARTICIPATION continued Primary Market Research & Foreign Direct Investment –Assistance is provided to partially compensate exporters for costs incurred in developing new export markets and to recruit new foreign direct investment into S.A through personal contact by visiting potential investors in foreign countries. Registration of patents, trade marks & quality marks –Assistance is provided to exporters for costs incurred relating to registration of a product in a foreign market 9

INDIVIDUAL PARTICIPATION continued Individual Inward Mission –Assistance is provided to S.A entities organising an inward buying/investment mission to enable a prospective buyer/investor to make contact with them to conclude export orders or attract foreign direct investment –The assistance is now extended towards inviting a foreign expert within the industry for capacity building in terms of technology or skills transfer 11

15 GENERIC EMIA DOCUMENTS 1.Export Registration Certificate 2.Certified copy of the Certificate of Incorporation or Certified copies of ID 3.Comprehensive colour brochure or CD ROM 4.Latest Financial Statements or Three Months Bank Statements 5.Export Marketing Plan 6.Three Air Ticket quotations from three service providers 7.Three Freight quotations from three service providers

MANDATORY CONDITIONS All entities should have traded for more than one financial year. The entity must be a registered legal entity in South Africa in terms of the Companies Act, 1973 (as amended), or the Close Corporations Act, 1984 (as amended) or Co-operatives Act, except in case of a sole proprietor and partnerships. The applicant must be a taxpayer in good standing and provide a valid tax clearance certificate before EMIA incentive is disbursed. Completed applications should reach the dti two months before the commencement date of the event. Entities applying for EMIA financial assistance might be subject to a site visit being conducted. 16

LIMITATIONS AND EXCLUSIONS Individual Participation (Individual Exhibitions, Primary Market Research & Foreign Direct Investment and Individual Inward bound missions of assistance is limited to four (4) applications per calendar year. Participation in countries, which are members of the South African Customs Union (Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland, and Namibia) is excluded from EMIA assistance. EMIA incentives are not available for events taking place in the period 10 December up to and including 10 January of each year. Participation in private exhibitions is excluded. 17

APPLICATION PROCESS Application –Applicant obtains EMIA application form and guideline from the dti website ( or from EMIA customer care line. –Applicant may obtain further information telephonically, by or visit to the dti offices. –The guideline should be read before completing the application form. Application Procedure –The Applicant the complete application to: –The completed signed application form with the supporting documents should be forwarded to EMIA by registered mail, courier or hand delivery 18

APPLICATION PROCESS continued Basic Evaluation –The applicant will receive an acknowledgement letter within 48 hours. –A letter will be send within 4 working days requesting outstanding documents. –The applicant will be given 5 working days to submit the documents. Adjudication Committee –Technical evaluation will be performed for the complete application. –Adjudication Committee convenes bi-weekly. –Complete applications are presented to the Committee –Applications are approved, rejected or referred back for additional information. –The decision of the Adjudication Committee is final. –Letter confirming approval of the application and the claim form will be forwarded to the applicant within 15 working days. 19

CLAIMS SUBMISSION Permissible Submission date of a claim –The claim form and all supporting documentation, together with the relevant post-event questionnaire must be completed and submitted to EMIA within three months after the date of event from the approved business destination. –Incomplete claims and claim items received after the three months will be rejected without exception. Customers will forfeit in principle the approval granted to them if they do not submit the claim form and all supporting documentation within three months after the date of event from the approved business destination. 20

SSAS: PROJECT FUNDING FOR EMERGING EXPORTERS QUALIFYING CRITERIA  12 months in operation  Comply to statutory requirements including registration with SARS for TCC, Export registration with Commissioner of Customs and Excise and also with CIPC  Participate in a structured export development programme.  Focusing on exhibition participation and missions
