 Yes, both SER and ESTAR mean “to be” (am, is, and are) But they are not interchangeable!!!!  So, how do we know when to use each one???

someone is feeling  1. To describe how someone is feeling (temporary characteristics) such as tired, sick, sad, happy, etc. location  2.To describe location such as beside, to the left of, in, etc.

 1. Whenever you don’t use “ESTAR” (and you want to say “am, is, or are”)

 How you feel and where you are,  this is when you use estar

 Twinkle twinkle verb estar  How you feel, where you are.

 1. window= la ventana  2. door = la puerta  3. on top of = encima de  4. the outskirts = las afueras  5. the bedroom = la habitación  6. nobody = nadie  7. big = grande  8. next to = al lado de  9. tampoco = neither, not either  10. debajo de = underneath
