Healthy food Your body needs five things: Carbohydrates, protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals…

Carbohydrates Carbohydrates are found in a wide array of both healthy and unhealthy foods (bread, beans, milk, popcorn, potatoes, cookies…) They also come in a variety of forms. The most common and abundant forms are sugars, fibers, and starches. Foods high in carbohydrates are an important part of a healthy diet. Carbohydrates provide the body with glucose, which is converted to energy used to support bodily functions and physical activity.

Protein Protein builds, maintains, and replaces the tissues in your body.   Your muscles, your organs, and your immune system are made up mostly of protein.  The best sources are beef, poultry, fish, eggs, dairy products, nuts, seeds, and legumes.

Fibre Fibre is found in cereals, fruits and vegetables.  The main role of fibre is to keep the digestive system healthy. Fibre is even more important for older people. The digestive system slows down with age, so a high-fibre diet becomes even more important.

Vitamins Vitamins are substances that your body needs to grow and develop normally. There are 13 vitamins your body needs. They are: 1. Vitamin A 2. B vitamins 3. Vitamin C 4. Vitamin D 5. Vitamin E 6. Vitamin K

Minerals Minerals are important for your body to stay healthy. Your body uses minerals for many different jobs, including building bones, making hormones and regulating your heartbeat.

Sugar Sugar isn't bad for you. It's carbohydrate and so it gives you energy. However, you shouldn't eat a lot of it. Firstly, sugar contains a lot of calories. Secondly, sugar contains no vitamins or minerals,so it's better to eat fruits. Fruits contains sugar, but you get the vitamins and minerals, too.
