Mrs. Fatima Attia And: to connect two similar ideas Ex: He didn‘t have to travel for work, and his family and friends lived nearby. But: to connect two contrasting “different” ideas Ex: She studied too hard, but she failed to pass. When we connect the sentences with and or but, use a comma ”,” between the ideas Ex: Kasim was afraid of flying, but his fear wasn’t a big problem for him. When the subject of both sentences is the same, use a pronoun as the subject in the second sentence. Ex: Kasim was very nervous when he got on the plane, but he knew he had to go.
