The Spanish School System Preschool Educación General Básica (EGB) Bachillerato Unificado y Polivalente (BUP) Formación Profesional (FP) Curso de Orientación Universitaria (COU)

Basic Information Preschool Ages 6-16 EGB –Language –Math –Social studies –Sciences –Artistic Expression 25 hours class time Pay for: –Books –School supplies –Transportation –Lunch –Extracurricular activities

Age 16! Certificate of Graduado Escolar –If EGB completed prior to age 16 –Choices: BUP or FP Certificate of Escolaridad –If EGB not completed by age 16 –No choices. Go to technical-training schools

BUP vs FP BUP: –ACADEMICS FP: –Hands-on training in: sciences, technology, health-care, business FINAL EXAMS are given 2 times each year (at the end of each semester!) MUST pass to continue schooling.
