In English we use the pronouns I, you, he, she, it, we and they to show who is doing the action. In Spanish, the endings of the conjugated verb forms show who is doing the action. To conjugate a verb whose infinitive ends in –AR [mirar, hablar, etc], 1) drop the –ar and 2) add the following endings for the singular forms: 2) add the following endings for the singular forms:

Habl o can only mean I speak Habl as con only mean you speak Habl a has several meanings : he speaks she speaks you [Ud] speak
Therefore, if the subject is not known, you must indicate who is doing the action: Él habl a he speaks Luís habl a Luís speaks Ella habl a she speaks Mi amigo habl a My friend speaks El Señor Ramos habl a Señor Ramos speaks Ud habl a you speak
