El Preterito So far, you have worked with the present tenses in Spanish. There are 2 past tenses in Spanish. We are going to learn the preterite tense.

The Preterite Tense The preterite is used for talking about actions completed in the past.

Preterite of regular - AR verbs To form the preterite of a regular –AR verb, you drop the -AR, then add the correct ending to the stem. When you drop the –AR of the verb, you are left with the stem. Hablar -> Habl Comprar -> Compr
