Multicultural, Activity Based, Social Support Program Multicultural Aged Care Inc.

Multicultural Aged Care Inc.(MAC) Established 21 years ago, MAC is a not for profit, aged and community care lead agency in South Australia. MAC assists and supports the aged and community care sectors; CALD community groups and their older people. MAC’s VISION is that… All older people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds will lead the lifestyle of their choice.

MAC’s Strategic Direction & Current Priorities Strengthen CALD community groups’ and generalist organisations’ capacity to develop programs that support the aged and community care needs of their older people.

Model Activity based, multicultural, social support program aimed at active older people from CALD backgrounds; Multicultural, collaborative; service delivery model where partnerships are developed between local government associations, MAC and CALD community groups and their older people. Knowledge, expertise, planning, implementation and evaluation is shared amongst the stakeholders

Model Embraces ‘culture’ and one’s ‘cultural self’; Builds upon Montessori principles; and Combines these with Cultural Intelligence (CQ); and Planning for diversity using MAC’s ‘4 As’ cultural competence tool Anticipate Acquire Apply Adjust

Utilises… CALD perspectives; Diverse cultural food, music and dance; Targeted, responsive, cultural activities; Montessori principles i.e. Observation, Approach, Purpose, Environment, Cooperation & Independence Skilled, competent multicultural/multilingual workers that can effectively liaise with CALD community groups, older people and bring them together; Safe, relaxed but busy café style environment;
