Presentation transcript:

Safety from Bullying on Our new VLE (a moodle) contains chats, blogs, wikis and forums – mainly within subject courses Our new ePortfolio (mahara) allows for student working groups and individual Blogs Wherever people interact, bullying can happen.

Advice from the BBC be clever and keep control – top tips from the BBC: Never rise to nastiness. Block it and report it. Remove people from your friends and if necessary, report them to the people that run the website. Adjust your privacy settings so that only people you choose can see your profile. Make yourself unfindable in searches and set your profile to private if you want. Think about what you post. Only write things online that you would say to someone's face. You don't have to join in on forwarding embarrassing stuff.

Safer than the Internet...? Only people with Hagley log-ins can access our new online services Every single online post can be tracked back to its author We won’t be able to view every posting - but we will be able to act when there is a problem

Staying Safe on Haggle Our school blogs, chats and forums (on our VLE and ePortfolio sites) are safer than others – because we can track back and see who has posted on them, if we need to. BUT – that doesn’t mean bullying can’t happen. Follow the BBC’s advice and... Report any bullying you see on our sites – even if it has nothing to do with you Never let anyone else use your login – they could be using it to bully

Adjusting your profiles On Haggle (VLE) Click on your own name (red, top right). Only put information about yourself that you are happy for everyone to know. You can also set it so that your address is only visible to people you work with. On Mahara (ePortfolio) Click on “Profile”. Your contact information is private, unless you choose to put it in a “view”. Keep control of your own information. When creating working groups, think carefully about the type – they can be open, requested or by invite.
