Supporting Book Aid International on World Book Day 2015

What is World Book Day? World Book Day is a celebration! It’s a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and most importantly it’s a celebration of reading. In fact, it’s the biggest celebration of its kind, marked in over 100 countries all over the world.

Who is Book Aid International? Book Aid International is a charity dedicated to increasing access to books and libraries in sub-Saharan Africa and the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Since 1954, they have sent more than 31 million books to over 3,000 libraries. In 2014, Book Aid International shipped over one million books to Africa.

Our brand new books are then safely delivered to our partner libraries in sub-Saharan Africa. Our books are collected from our warehouse in south London and transported on large ships.

Which countries do we support? Cameroon Kenya Malawi Ethiopia Eritrea Occupied Palestinian Territories Somalia and Somaliland South Sudan Tanzania Uganda Zambia Zimbabwe

Imagine a world without books! In sub-Saharan Africa books are a precious resource which very few can afford. The libraries Book Aid International support provide brand new books to children and young adults living in some of the poorest communities in sub-Saharan Africa. “I am happy to see children running to the library from the schools even before they get to their homes to change. It tells us how valuable things are in the library.” Margret Apondi, Teacher

Fundraising on World Book Day Book Aid International is a beneficiary of World Book Day. Hundreds of schools across the UK, Scotland, Ireland and the Channel Islands fundraise for Book Aid International each year. Donations raised by schools help Book Aid International to select, pack and ship hundreds of brand new books to libraries in Africa. It costs around £2 to send a book to our partners.

You make the difference! In 2014 schools across the UK raised an incredible £137,000 in support of our work! Watch our film to see how your support can really change lives. Happy World Book Day and thank you for all your support!
