Act your career, not your age

Go over the agenda A little bit about Preston Tonight’s conversation The Culture of career search A bit about you A bit about our stories A bit about our commitments Question / Answer Wrap up

No fighting, kicking or screaming No hiding out, judging, or throwing tomatoes No expectation of a crystal ball Instead… Explore, listen & question Participate in and engage the process Take just ONE thing home with you

Focus on instrumentality or the “vehicle” Efficiency – what’s the least to do for greatest return? Currency – how much will you cost? Politics – how do you have to kiss? Why doesn’t this work? Commercialization of human beings

Focus on the acceptable or “safety” What is everyone else doing? What’s socially acceptable? What’s politically acceptable? “They” all say it’s tougher when you’re older Why doesn’t this work? De-value our contribution

Focus on tactics or the “how” Resumes Cover letters Job boards (Monster, etc) Career networking groups Why doesn’t this work? Externally driven solutions

Choose to get back to work or not Identify two (2) ideal careers Identify twenty (20) people to interview in each career Schedule five (5) interviews per week Journal daily on the contribution(s) you made Volunteer for a charitable organization and/or play a leadership role in an organization Find an accountability partner
