Día de los Niños Día de los Libros Presented by Donie Gignac Valencia Branch Library Tucson, Arizona

History of El Día de los Niños/El Día de los Libros In 1996, Pat Mora met with REFORMA Tucson Chapter. First Día programs held in El Paso, Santa Fe and Tucson in April Tucson Program - Public librarians visited 3 elementary schools whose librarians were REFORMA members to promote the first Día. REFORMA purchased bookmarks to distribute to all students at the 3 elementary schools and attendees at the public library program to come.

1 st Tucson Public Library Día program Held at the South Tucson Branch Library in collaboration with City of South Tucson Police and Fire Departments and Pima County Parks and Rec. Library Staff performed a puppet show. Police and Fire Departments brought fire trucks and police cars. Parks and Rec. provided face painting.

PCPL Día Programs Started small - one location for several years. - Rotated at one branch for 3 yrs. - Main Library for 3 yrs. Has grown to 21 branches in Anticipated to expand to all branches soon. Funding provided by Friends of PCPL. - $3, allotted for 2008 REFORMA/Tucson Chapter - incentives
