BACKGROUND West Virginia University is a land-grant, public research institution founded in It currently offers 191 undergraduate and graduate degree programs across 14 different colleges and schools on campus. Nearly a hundred nationalities are represented on WVU’s campus. The top five largest groups on campus, as of the school year, are from Saudi Arabia, China, India, Nigeria, and Kuwait.

TUITION AND FEES – GENERAL Undergraduate: $31,356 (fall and spring semesters combined) Graduate: $32,092 (fall and spring semesters combined) This is the general cost of tuition for students. Costs vary across individual programs. Laboratory classes may also incur an additional fee for the student.

HOUSING FEES With 14 residence halls to choose from, the cost ranges from $2, to $2, for a double room or double suite. MEAL PLANS Meal plans range from $1, to $2,391.00, with three structured meal plans (10 meals per week, 15 meals per week, 19 meals per week) and two open meal plans (blue plan, gold plan).

ACADEMIC SUPPORT SERVICES There are learning centers available on campus for students who need additional help or want extra practice with their subjects. Facilities include: Math Learning Center Chemistry Learning Center Engineering Learning Center Writing Center Term Paper Clinic

SCHOLARSHIPS University Merit Scholarship: Criteria to Renew – A GPA of 3.20 after the freshman year, then 3.30 after the sophomore and junior years. Scholars must also complete at least 30 credit hours per year. Academic Excellence Level 1 Scholarship: Criteria to Renew – A GPA of 3.20 after the freshman year, then 3.30 after the sophomore and junior years. Scholars must also complete at least 30 credit hours per year. Academic Excellence Level 2 Scholarship: Criteria to Renew – GPA of 2.85 after the freshman year, then cumulative 3.00 after the sophomore and junior years. Scholars must also complete at least 30 credit hours per year. Blue & Gold Level 1 Scholarship: Criteria to Renew – GPA of 2.70 after the freshman year, then cumulative 2.90 after the sophomore and junior years. Scholars must also complete at least 30 credit hours per year. Blue & Gold Level 2 Scholarship: Criteria to Renew – GPA of 2.50 after the freshman year, then 2.75 after the sophomore and junior years. Scholars must also complete at least 30 credit hours per year.

ASSISTANTSHIPS WVU awards about 1,900 assistantships and over 100 fellowships each year. All assistants are required to be full-time graduate students (nine or more credit hours in the fall and spring, six or more in the summer); these assistantships are accompanied by tuition waivers. Types of assistantships include teaching, research, administrative, residence, and advising assistantships.

WAIVERS Academic programs may offer tuition waivers to students who do not have an assistantship or fellowship. The following guidelines must be met for a student to qualify: Waivers must be awarded only to degree-seeking students. Generally, a minimum of 3 credit hours is set for all merit waiver awards. Merit waivers generally should be used to meet degree requirements. Merit hours can only be used for graduate/professional courses (>400 number). Hours to a particular student can be awarded from only one WVU college/department. The maximum length of time waivers may be received by a full-time student is set at 3 years for master’s students and 5 years for doctoral students continuing beyond the master’s. Merit waivers are not to be used for the processing of tuition waivers provided to Graduate Assistants and Fellows.

The application service fee ($60 non-refundable application fee) Results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) must be sent to WVU directly from the Educational Testing Service Original or certified copies of all official academic record in original language of issue (transcripts from U.S. institutions must be sent to WVU directly from the institutions). Unofficial photocopies are not acceptable. Original or certified copies of all academic certificates or Diplomas in original language of issue Official English translations of Academic Records and certificates/ Diplomas For Visa documents: Certification of financial support and copy of current passport. All application materials should be submitted together at the same time if possible
