Student Council SAI International School, Bhubaneswar, India Student Council SAI International School, Bhubaneswar, India What??? The Student Council of the School is a representative structure for students only, through which they become involved in the affairs of the school, working in partnership with school Management, staff and parents for the benefit of the school and its students. How??? The council works together to identify and address concerns that affect the students directly and indirectly. It represents the interests of the students and participates in discussions and decisions that affect the student community.

More about the Student Council SAI International School has a well defined Student council Policy in order to facilitate the development of student leaders and to instill in the members a sense of duty and responsibility. The Student Council promotes the interests of the school and the involvement of students in the affairs of the school, in co-operation with the school authorities and teachers.

Formation…….. Formation…….. The size and composition of a Student Council is determined by the school management. The council represents all the students in the school to function effectively. Provision is made to allow for an appropriate gender balance on the Council, either through the selection of two representatives, one boy and one girl in each of the categories. The student council is not elected rather selected. The students interested to be a part of the Council apply for a post and after a careful selection procedure and interaction with the management the suitable students who meet the criterias are inducted to the Student Council in a formal ceremony.

Duties and Responsibilities of Head Boy/ Head Girl  Organizing school/social events involving students.  Acting as Chairperson/Secretary of student council  Liaising between School students and the Principal  Acting as role models, setting examples of good conduct and adhering to dress code  Attending various functions as school representatives, e.g. parent day, school events etc.  Delegating tasks to different members of school council  Encouraging team spirit and promoting positive ethos within the school population through student involvement  Maintaining Discipline in the school.

Roles of the Student Council Roles of the Student Council  The Student Council meet at least once a month to discuss their agenda as per the schedule in the students almanac  The Council Members are always dressed in proper uniform, always maintain code of conduct for students  They assist class teachers and other teachers to maintain discipline in the school whenever required.  To ensure that discipline is maintained in the cafeteria, games field and in the classes.  To plan for school functions ahead of the day and help in the preparation for the function  To plan and execute important events of the school  Making suggestions about improving school facilities.  Mentoring programs for younger students and organizing quizzes, art competitions etc.  Ensure that students are not bullied by other students.

Impact in running of the School The student council has a major role to play in the running of the School as they can tell teachers and staff their ideas and representing each class in the school. On behalf of the School Management they communicate to the students about major decisions taken keeping them informed about the life of the school and helping students to gain confidence to have their say. They make students feel confident about their place in the school community by giving them responsibilities and encouraging them to take leadership. Consequently, members of the Student Council learn to become leaders and they develop skills like communication, team management, goal setting, organizational abilities and also their confidence and self reliance gets enhanced which helps them in growing up to become successful and responsible citizens.
