The YRBS, developed by CDC, is administered every two years in all middle and high schools. In SY0809, the YRBS was completed by 2,145 HS students (an 84% response rate) and by 2,417 MS students (an 81% response rate). The results are representative all of SFUSD students in middle schools (6 - 8) and high schools (9-12).

The survey was developed by SFUSD Student Support Services Department & ETR Associates.  Many of the questions on the survey were from the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS), developed by WestEd for the California Department of Education (CDE) and used with permission.  The survey focused primarily on school safety issues. In SY0708, over 22,000 SFUSD students completed the anonymous survey. 2
