Space Planning Research & Precedents Vermont State Offices at National Life

Proposed Typical Floor (Test fit plan showing “generic” 6’x7’ workstations)

Existing Typical Floor (Narrow aisles, no sight lines to windows)

(From a Federal GSA survey of 24,000 government employees transitioning from high-wall cubicles to an open plan)

Maintain views and provide adequate open space Avoid partitions, offices, etc. against windows to enhance air circulation and maintain view access for all Provide acoustically absorbent/ dissapative materials on floor, ceilings, partitions Implement “white noise” systems More meeting spaces and “focus rooms” Design to accommodate distractions- for example, provide queuing spaces outside of meeting rooms Accommodate different work styles through design Creating a functional Open Space Plan

A workstation similar to “Option 3” installed in a state office space in Massachusetts- which is also transitioning to an open office plan with similar standards to Vermont.
