Women of Iran

Although some may claim that Iranian history and politics is a masculine affair, nevertheless a review of the Iranian history will prove the fact that in no period women have been strangers to political power and leadership. In fact, the presence of women in social and political fields, even at high levels, enjoys ancient history. Women have assumed power and ruled over the whole or extensive parts of Iran according to time prerequisites and certain interests and conditions.

Therefore, it would be more appropriate to say that although the role of women in the Iranian society has been slow but it has assumed an upward trend in most of the times.

For instance, after the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, the role played by women took on new strength and despite the shortcomings, the presence of women in various social, cultural, political, economic, media and sports fields is no way comparable with the early years after the revolution and it has enhanced remarkably.
