Focused Monitoring Support and Technical Assistance Session 1 Discussion Slides for Selected Districts FM

Welcome You have been chosen for participation in the Focused Monitoring system as a SELECTED DISTRICT. That means that you have data of concern related to students with disabilities and our teams will work together to explore that data and its root causes and develop a Theory of Action Plan for improving outcomes for student with disabilities.

Welcome We’ll assume that everyone has had an opportunity to review the training web- module at and has a sense of the overall process. From this point, your state consultant team will join you in activities designed to generate thoughtful discussion around topics important to the success of your students with disabilities.

Welcome It’s a “walk and talk” that we’ll take together so let’s allow it to lead us in whatever direction proves useful to this group and your district. Let’s talk a bit about what to expect today…

Session 1 Introductions Review the data of concern Review of additional areas you would like to discuss Conduct comprehensive root cause analyses of all data of concern Identify a Focus for Improvement Review forms FM-8 and FM-9 We’ll break for lunch on our own from (11:30 AM-12:30PM) and end no later than 3:00PM

Who are we? Before we go any further, let’s find out who is in the room today and what we each bring to the table…

What is your Data of Concern? PLACE DATA OF CONCERN HERE

Do You Have Other Data of Concern? You may have areas that we haven’t identified through Focused Monitoring, but you believe are of concern and negatively impacting the success of your students with disabilities… Let’s talk about them!

What are the Root Causes? Each of your identified areas of data of concern have causes that probably run deep in the culture and operational nature of your school district as well the community outside of your schools. Let’s take some time now to really dig into these areas and see if we can get to the ‘roots’ of what’s causing them.

Now We Need a Focus For Improvement Yes, ALL data of concern are important, but we must narrow our focus for now if we are to get anything done… What is the one area of focus that you feel will most positively impact your students with disabilities?…

Regarding Your Focus For Improvement What supports/assistance do you need in order to improve in this area? What supports/assistance are already available or in place (e.g., in-district? from the CSDE? from SERC? from other sources?) What supports/assistance are needed but lacking (e.g., in-district? from the CSDE? from SERC? from other sources?)

“Homework” FM-9 Comprehensive System of Personnel Development

“Homework” FM-8 District Self-Report This Self-Report summarizes the findings of the support and technical assistance activities conducted throughout the Focused Monitoring process.

See you again on (DATE) for Session 2! We will be discussing your Focus for Improvement as related to your district’s: Governance Fiscal Practices Quality Standards Professional Development Use of Data Accountability, and Family Engagement
