What to Expect When Writing an NRSA: Advice from Personal Experience Stephanie N. Washburn APA Science Student Council

What Not to Do Procrastinate

What to Do Don’t Procrastinate –It will take longer than you think –You will spend an equal amount of time (or even more) filling out the supplementary information Read the instructions carefully Know ahead of time what information you must gather –Transcripts, etc. Decide on your references –Ask them ahead of time

What to Do Find out if your institution has a place that handles grants (i.e. a research foundation) Talk to other students in your area who have written NRSAs –They are invaluable Gather examples from others students –Preferably ones that have been funded Talk to your advisor/sponsor long before the deadline –They have to fill out Section 2

What to Do Get biographical sketches for sponsor and any collaborators

What to Expect Confusion downloading application –PHS – Space issues –Font (Arial 11 pt) –Paragraph spacing (12 pt within/6 pt between) –Spacing between sentences Sections E-K Rejection
