Presentation transcript:

 What are we searching for? The Head’s Network – Spring Seminar 2014

Thinking about what you have now  Three things: That you enjoy in your current work? That motivate you to consider or pursue a change?

What are you considering?  There are many options – what are you thinking?  Head of School search  Change of roles in current school  Taking on a new role in a new school  Just wanting change

Some words to live by :  “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” Nelson Mandela  Give your energy to things that give you energy  Questions can be more powerful than answers

What are your fears?  What if:  Your partner/spouse said  “Let’s go! I can get a new job, too”  You figured out that you could afford a home?  You felt that your children would do well in a new setting or school?  You realized that you have what it takes for a new role? What if, you weren’t second guessing a search? What if, you realized you weren’t afraid?

Take a minute……  What is your greatest fear when you think of making a professional change?

Things valued  Why did you take your current job?  Why did the school hire you?  What do you value in a school setting?  What allows you to perform well?

Let’s get practical  What is needed?  Resume  Educational philosophystatement  References and letters of reference  Cover letter  Committing the time to the search  Having the resources for first visits  Practicing for SKYPE interviews

Resources  Who can help? Where do you find listings?  Mentor at your school or in your life  Green Sheet –  Blue Sheet – same as above  Association websites – search job listings  Consulting Firms

What role does this faculty play?  We are ready to help  With your paperwork  With navigating job sites and listings  With your first SKYPE interview  With your first visit to a new school  With understanding the timing of searches  With reassuring you about next steps…..
