Arose from the request of the Administrators from the 5 First Nations › Lack of experience in dealing with addicted Clients › Difficulties dealing with Clients suffering from Addictions › Training on how to identify addicted clients › Training on how to interact with addicted clients
The program was developed through collaboration with St. Clair College Collaborative Program took over 4 months to build. Back and forth communication between Stepping Stones and St. Clair College
How to deal with the Addicted Client How to recognize the highs and lows of Addicted Clients Understanding the Pharmacology of various drugs – Prescription/Non Prescription Impacts of the Addicted Client
Collaboration with St. Clair College lead to the development of the “Serving the Addictive Client” program The program is aimed to provide the Ontario Works Administrator with the tools necessary in dealing with and understanding the addicted client 7 session program
Overview of Substance Abuse Methadone Treatment Assessment Families & Addiction Communication & Addictions Dealing Effectively with Addictive Clients The Worker
Overview of Substance Abuse › Trainees will gain an understanding of substance use, abuse and dependence Methadone Treatment › Methadone myths, facts and FAQ’s
Assessment – Know the Client › Trainees will be able to employ basic assessment tools to gain an understanding of issues, expectations and limitations of the employability of the client and how and when to advocate for their rights and welfare
Families and Addiction – Know Family Dynamics › Trainees will be introduced to theories related to family systems and functional vs. dysfunctional systems, and the effect of abuse on families
Communication and Addictions › Trainees will be introduced to the concepts and application of diverse interpersonal communication skills via lecture and role play.
Dealing Effectively with Addictive Clients › Trainees will be introduced to techniques in handling client behaviors and problems solving The Worker – Know Yourself › This session concentrates on the worker. Topics covered will encourage self reflection in personal value systems, burnout, assumptions, judgments and personal thoughts on addiction
Program Participants that complete all 7 sessions receive an Award of Recognition for completion of the program Participants that attend selected sessions receive singular acknowledgement for the sessions they attend
First Intake (March – June 2012) › 15 participants successfully completed the program Second Intake began September 28, 2012
