Setting Setting  This story takes place in the present day. Mostly in her school. Her school is McClenton middle school and is run-down with writing all over the schools walls and lockers. The other half takes place in Maleeka’s apartment. Her apartment is decent but very small and in the middle of a bad neighborhood.

Characters Characters  Charlese: cruel and heartless mean and tough girl at school  Rain & Raise : followers of Charlese and are bullies to anyone  Caleb: nice and sweet to Maleeka and likes her  Ms.Sauders: Different and very outspoken in this book  Maleeka: insecure and just wanting to fit in  Momma (Maleeka’s mom): depressed and doesn’t pay attention that much to Maleeka  John-John: bully to only Maleeka but can be really nice to her

Plot Plot  Maleeka is made fun-of because she has really dark skin color by john-john and other kids at school. Then when her new English (Ms.Saunders )teacher arrives with a big birthmark across her face she makes it a lot worst for Maleeka by standing up for her. Charlese does not like that Ms.Saunders is doing this for Maleeka and that she is telling her to do right

Resolution Resolution Charlese gets mad at Ms.Saunders and threatens to mess up her classroom instead Maleeka (being with her at the time ) catches the class on fire and takes the blame. She ends up get tired and stands up for herself. Tells everyone the truth.

my opinion my opinion  I thought this book was great! For one, I could connect to what the character was feeling be cause she had insecurity’s about her skin. reading this book kind-of made me feel a little bit better about my skin color. I loved this book

About the author About the author  Sharon Flake lives in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania  She won The Coretta Scott King award for this book  This was her first book published  She also won 4 other awards for The Skin I'm In  She writes other young adult literature

 13 year old,Maleeka goes to McClenton middle school. There she gets teased really bad because of her skin color. At first the book starts out Ms.Saunders and Maleeka meeting. Maleeka can tell she is not going to like her. Maleeka becomes friends with the meanest girl in school, Charlese to help stop being bullied. But it only got worst. Charlese hates Ms.Saunders so she ruins her room (with help fom Maleeka ) then Maleeka takes the blame but gets tired of doing what she wants so she told the truth about it and stands up for herself to Charlese.
