RARS Implementation Group – Sixth meeting Exeter EARS-ATOVS (1/2) Design: Decentralised processing and data compression into bzip2 to reduce data volume. Processor: AAPP (v7.3) as delivered by NWP SAF. Distribution via EUMETCast Ku-Band and GTS. All satellites: NOAA 15, 16, 18, 19 and Metop-A. Number of stations: 15. Products, formats: One set of products per pass, including: –Level 1a per ATOVS instrument, data in AAPP format, bzip2 compressed. –Level 1c per ATOVS instrument, data on original instrument grid, BUFR format. –AVHRR derived cloud mask on HIRS instrument grid (Level 1d), BUFR format. Operational monitoring by NWP SAF Timeliness: < 30 minutes for Athens, Gander, Gilmore, Kangerlussuaq, Lannion, Maspalomas, Saint-Denis, Svalbard, Wallops, Moscow, Muscat, Miami, Edmonton. < 45 minutes for Monterey. ~ 60 minutes for Ewa Beach.
RARS Implementation Group – Sixth meeting Exeter EARS-ATOVS (2/2) Number of Users on EUMETCast: > 1000 registered Users. Number of products per day: ~ 2000 products, corresponding to 625 MB. RARS Implementation Group – Sixth meeting Exeter Fast Dump Extraction System – FDES (1/2) Metop-A HRPT operated on Southbound orbits over Europe and also partly on Northbound orbits. The FDES service provides data from Northbound orbits based on a extract of the Global Dump data. Timeliness 10 Minutes Timeliness 20 Minutes Timeliness 40 Minutes Both Metop-A HRPT and FDES Data available via EUMETCast and GTS
RARS Implementation Group – Sixth meeting Exeter Fast Dump Extraction System – FDES (2/2) FDES provides full Northern Hemisphere coverage for Metop-A Ascending passes for EARS-ATOVS, -ASCAT, - AVHRR, -IASI and -NWC. EARS-ASCAT Daily Coverage
RARS Implementation Group – Sixth meeting Exeter Ongoing developments Start of Metop HRPT operations at Kangerlussuaq, Svalbard, Wallops, Gilmore, Gander and Edmonton; FDES still used for Metop-A; Metop-B integration in EARS-ATOVS, EARS-AVHRR, EARS-ASCAT, EARS-IASI and EARS-NWC; Finalisation of the European station upgrade to X-Band; Upgrade of the PPN servers and EUMETSAT servers to IBM Linux; Finalisation of the EARS-IASI and EARS-NWC developments; Consolidate pass scheduling with multiple stations at individual sites; Inclusion of Resolute Bay, Novosibirsk and Khabarovsk into EARS- ATOVS; Ongoing upgrade of the EARS IP-VPN network to accommodate the new NPP data flows.
