Overview G2 S G1 Mitosis Click on the shape to get more information (if you want to pass). Start here
The cell cycle consists of 4 stages, G1, S, G2, and mitosis. G1, S, and G2 are collectively called “interphase”. Interphase is often called the “resting phase” because a cell is not dividing.
Stands for “Gap 1” because it is the stage in between two stages where the nucleus is active. Cell growth occurs. Normal cell activities occur (protein synthesis, etc.)
Stands for “synthesis” (of DNA). DNA replication occurs. A complete copy of all DNA is made.
Stands for Gap 2. More cell growth occurs. Preparation for cell division occurs (more organelles are made, etc.)
You will investigate the 4 stages of mitosis by making an interactive tutorial like this one. The four stages are Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, and Telophase. Some texts break prophase up into 2 phases: prophase and prometaphase. You can combine them into one phase called prophase. Click the link for instructions for your project.
Make an interactive tutorial using PowerPoint that details the events of the four stages of mitosis. Your product should be set up so that there is a main screen where the user can click buttons or pictures in order to move to slides with information about the phases. Your tutorial should include: A diagram of a cell in each stage. A photograph of a plant cell and an animal cell in each stage. A description of what is happening in each stage. A terms page that links from terms that the user may not know to a page with all definitions. A page that lists the sites used for images.
