Competitive Learning Symposium Do you think that World Finals should adopt a practice of publishing more data? Year% YesRelevance (1-5) %4 Q %4 Q %3 Q %1 Q1

As a director, everything I and the judges do should be transparent. … I have mixed feelings about publishing student data though.

Publishing the names of the contestant before the contest has been very helpful to find some unqualified people who do not provide enough document (and may provide false documents). We release the judges test cases 4-6 months after the contest. Also, we hold several online contests over the Internet BEFORE our regional contest.

We believe there are two major advantages to publishing judge\'s solutions and test data. First, both competing teams, teams still preparing for contests and any other interested party can learn from them. Second, it adds to the credibility and openness of the judges and hence the contest…

I am not sure about publishing more data. …some teams may complain more about results. I will be happy when I will be wrong.

Some additional data from the finals might be acceptable. However publishing solutions … is just inviting a disgruntled team from filing a lawsuit.

Publishing more data is chancy but it also gives people/schools/teams thinking about becoming involved a better idea of how to get started. Feedback to the newer teams is probably more important (during the contest) than a great deal of data after the contest. Publishing data on a web-site could result in more queries. It may be prudent to publish statistics of results rather than the actual results itself.
