  PASS Objectives (Science)  PS1, PS3, PS4, PS5, ESS 3.2a, ESS 3.2b  PASS Objectives (Math)  MATH1.1, 2.1c, 2.2a, 5.1a, 5.1b, 51.3 PASS Objectives

  Ask students to recall a time they were in the hot sun.  Chocolate video: c c  Guiding questions Engage

 Explore  Students will predict and record which of the three substances will be able to retain heat. RankingPredictionActual Most Effective Second Most Effective Least Effective

  All groups then share their data and experiences.  Students then graph temp/time on a graph for all three substances.  Explain the interplay between atmosphere, land and water impact Earth’s climate, weather, and general circulation of the Earth’s atmosphere. Explain

  Give each group a cup with an ice cube and challenge them to insulate the cube so that it lasts as long as possible under the heat of the lamp. Elaborate

  Ask students to think back to the chocolate ball on the sidewalk video. Ask them to design and sketch packaging that will protect a piece of chocolate from the heat of the sun. They will need to include a materials list and reasoning behind their design. Evaluate
