Objective + Do Now Objective: SWBAT evaluate Boston’s high schools, and choose at least 7 that they are interested in attending. Do Now: Of the 7 factors you learned about earlier, what are the THREE most important ones to you when you choose which high school you want to attend? Why do those matter to you?

Important Dates to Know School Preview Time: November 2-January 22. Schools will hold open houses and shadow days for students. Student absences for school visits are EXCUSED. First Registration Period: January 4-February 5, Students MUST turn in a registration form during this time if they want a high school of their choosing! High School Applications Due: January-April 2010, depending on the school.

Day 1: Groupwork In groups, research the schools you’ve been assigned using the slides your teacher gives you, the Next Stop: High School book, the Boston Public Schools report cards, the DESE report cards, and student interviews. Complete the handout for your schools. When you’re finished, you will present your research to your classmates. Your presentation can be accompanied by posters or powerpoint slides for the schools you researched.

Next Steps By Jan. 4: Decide what schools you’re interested in applying to. By Jan. 15: Research and visit those schools! Make sure YOU have knowledge about them, instead of relying on other people’s knowledge. Between Jan. and Apr.: Fill out and turn in your high school registration form ON TIME. Between Jan. and Apr.: Ask teachers for recommendations, and get your essays written, for application high schools.
