Mobile device ecosystem for children

Introduction This presentation displays creative ideas regarding the development and distribution of mobile devices designed for children. The following age groups will be targeted, each with a different look of the same device: 6 – 9 years 10 – 14 years Our objective is to offer much more than only a mobile device. The proposal will include a whole ecosystem composed of a device, its accessories and the related software applications. Besides increased marketing value, this also allows for a lasting and profitable business model. Please note that this initial presentation is designed to show what can be done. The included solutions may change in time.

The device One for all concept One device will be used for both age groups, in order to provide faster time-to- market and better prices. When the age group transition occurs, the child starts desiring a device which looks more like those of the adults. For this reason, the elements which are specific to the younger age group can be removed from the device when desired.

The device Technical specifications 1 GHz dual core CPU 512 GB RAM 4GB internal memory 0,3 MP front camera 2 MP back camera 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 GPS 480 x 800 px multi touch capacitive screen 3-axis G-Sensor FM Radio Micro SD memories up to 32 GB … The included technical specifications insure very good performance and can be made available at affordable prices. These specifications are significantly better than those of competing child devices.

Age group 1 (6 – 9 years) Device – concept Original concept Ergonomic design White casing (other colors are possible) Protective soft cover The soft cover can be replaced. Different cover color schemes for boys and girls. Other custom covers can be made.

These accessories can be customized, manufactured and made available fast. Other planned accessories are: Joystick Gamepad Steering wheel Stylus Microphone Etc. Age group 1 (6 – 9 years) Accessories Headphones (wired or Bluetooth) Custom bags Remote controlled toys ( Bluetooth) Wireless speaker (Bluetooth)

GUI based on the Allview Berry UI (licensed by Allview). With sound. Fruit characters have been designed. These give the device personality and strengthen the brand. The characters will have names and allow for future merchandising sale. Age group 1 (6 – 9 years) Software – main GUI (Graphical User Interface)

Different backgrounds, according to day/night and seasonal cycles and other events. Character appearance may also change. Note: The opportunity to use famous copyrighted characters exists and should be exploited for limited editions (e.g. Smurfs edition, Winnie the Pooh edition etc.) Age group 1 (6 – 9 years) Software – main GUI (Graphical User Interface) Winter DayNight

Age group 1 (6 – 9 years) Software – GUI icons / application categories Music Launches the preset application for listening to music. The application should index all the music available on the device. Movies Launches the preset application for watching movies. The application should index all the music available on the device. Games Launches a custom window where all installed games are listed. Social Launches a custom window where all installed social applications are listed. A custom developed chat application can be included. Educational Launches a custom window where all installed educational applications are listed. Application suggestions (unavailable applications can be developed): Ebook reader (for fairytales and others) PDF reader (for manuals) Coloring book application Audiobook application etc. Market Launches an agreed market. The software system should allow to sell own content (!). The software system will monitor installations. After each one, the user will be prompted to assigned the application to one of the existing GUI icons / categories.

Age group 1 (6 – 9 years) Software – GUI icons / application categories Camera Launches the preset camera application Contacts (Calling, Messaging) Launches the preset Contacts/ Call/ SMS application Favorites Launches a custom window where all favorite applications are listed. Settings The preset Parental Control application may also be accessed from here, after entering a password. Gallery Launches the preset (photo) gallery application Browser Launches the preset Internet browser (parent allowance may be requested)

Age group 2 (10 – 14 years) Device – concept With emphasis on games also through deals with game developer partners. Adult device look and feel after removing the age group 1 specific elements

These accessories can be customized, manufactured and made available fast. Other planned accessories are: Joystick Gamepad Steering wheel Stylus Microphone Etc. Age group 2 (10 – 14 years) Accessories Speakers Remote controlled helicopter Remote controlled car with more complex controls

Age group 2 (10 – 14 years) Software – main GUI (Graphical User Interface) The main GUI looks and works very much like the GUI of normal adult devices. The user gains more freedom to personalize the GUI. Parental Control options remain accessible from the settings menu. The own content distribution option is still available.

Business model The following thoughts apply to all age groups. The device and GUI differences between age groups contribute themselves to increased sales. There are several ways to turn this idea into profit, such as: Sale of telecommunication services (calls, messages, data) Sale of devices Sale of accessories Sale of merchandising related to the GUI characters (stuffed mascots, t- shirts, mugs, trinkets, lanyards, cereal bowls, coloring books, device covers, games, hats etc). Sale of software applications (when not included for free to drive content sales) (new downloadable GUIs, coloring book app, puzzles, human body app, advanced parental control, educational software etc.) Sale of content for the software applications (manuals, ebooks, audiobooks, coloring books, comics, multimedia content etc.)

Other ideas which were not mentioned on the previous slides: The GUI can adapt to user behavior (e.g. the main GUI icons may change their order of appearance based on how many times each was accessed; the GUI may change also according to user locations and remember certain location patterns and raise question according to that) The GUI can have a higher level of interaction with the user (e.g. the characters can talk to the user). The GUI should contain elements to attract the user’s attention to special offers in the market. Parental control also online, with location tracking (by means of an additional application) Usage statistics Schedule creation (by interactively learning user behavior) Educational aspects may have to be emphasized (parents will decide easier to buy) All elements are designed to keep the user engaged. Please note that this initial presentation is designed to show what can be done. The included solutions may change in time. Concluding remarks

Thank you!
