What does MSW M & H Rules 2000 say? MSW Rules 2000 are applicable to every local body and they are responsible for collection, segregation, storage, transportation, processing and disposal of municipal solids. The policy mandates the ULBs to; Keep “Wet” & “Dry” waste streams separately Doorstep collection of segregated “wet” waste Organic / bio-degradables to be Composted Inorganics / Recyclables – assist informal sector recycling value chain Compost Rejects, Hazards & Inerts only to be Landfilled* * As per CPCB guidelines ULBs can do away with landfills by following Zero Waste initiatives Municipal Solid Wastes (Management and Handling) Rules, 2000 were published under the notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Environment and Forests number S.O. 783(E), dated, the 27th September, 1999 in the Gazette of India, Part II, Section 3, Sub-section (ii).

Almost 20 years after the plague and 14 years after MSW Rules what has changed? What have we done in these 14 years since MSW Rules 2K?
