Text: Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.Rom. 1:22 A. THE “WISE” WHO WELCOMED JESUS AS KING INTO JERUSALEM. Matt. 21: The Two Disciples were wise – they Obeyed Jesus, and did as Jesus commanded them. Mt. 21:1, 2 a. Jesus Instructed them:Mt. 21:2  Go into the village…ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto Me.

a. Jesus Instructed them:Mt. 21:2 b. It was according to the Inspired Word of God:Mt. 21:4, 5  All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass. Zech. 9:9  Ct. Mk. 11:7; Lk. 19:35 - they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon.  Jn. 12:14 - Jesus, when He had found a young ass, sat thereon.  Was Jesus crucified on the 14 th of Nisan of AD30 – Thursday to Friday sunset (April 6 – 7)? Cf. Exo. 12:6  Did Palm Sunday fall on 10 th Nisan – April 2 nd, AD30? Would the Lamb be selected or rejected? Cf. Exo. 12:3 For even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us (I Cor. 5:7)

A. THE “WISE” WHO WELCOMED JESUS AS KING INTO JERUSALEM.Matt. 21: The Two Disciples were wise – they Obeyed. 2. The Multitudes were wise – they made Obeisance to Jesus, the King.Jn. 12:13 a. They Accepted Him and took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet Him b.They Acclaimed Him as King and cried, Hosanna [lit. = Save now, Psa. 118:25, 26]:  Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.Cf. Mt. 21:9

A. THE “WISE” WHO WELCOMED JESUS AS KING INTO JERUSALEM.Matt. 21:1- 11 B. LATER, THEY BECAME “APRIL FOOLS” AND REJECTED JESUS AS KING IN JERUSALEM. 1. The “Pals” (disciples) of Jesus Comprehended not these things and forsook Him: Jn. 12:16; Mt. 26:56  These things understood not His disciples at the first…all the disciples forsook Him, and fled. 2. The Pilgrims in the City knew Him not: all the city was moved, saying, Who is this? Mt. 21:10, 11  And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.

1. The “Pals” of Jesus Comprehended not 2. The Pilgrims in the City knew Him not: 3. The People in Pilate’s Courtroom Cried out, Away with Him, away with Him, crucify Him. Jn. 19:15  Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.  Ct. Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.Jn. 12:13 4. The chief Priests and officers wanted Him to be Crucified, saying, Crucify Him, crucify Him. Jn. 19:16  Then delivered he [Pilate] Him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led Him away. Jn. 19:16

C. TWO FOOLS WHO BECAME WISE AFTER KING JESUS’ RESURRECTION: Lk.24:13, 25, 26 And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem…Then He said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into His glory?  What have the prophets spoken? I Pet. 1:10, 11 – The prophets have inquired and searched diligently…  … beforehand the sufferings of Christ,  and the glory that should follow.

What have the prophets spoken? 1. The Sufferings of Christ: Psa. 22:1-21 a. His Physical Suffer- ings:  They pierced my hands and my feet. I may tell all my bones; they look and stare upon me.22:16, 17  All my bones are out of joint… 22:14 ct. Jn. 19:36; Ex. 12:46 ; Num. 9:12  I am poured out like water…my tongue cleaveth to my jaws.22:14, 15

What have the prophets spoken? 1. The Sufferings of Christ: Psa. 22:1-21 b. His Social Suffer- ings:  I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised by the people. 22:6  All they who see me laugh me to scorn; 22:7a  They shoot the lip, they shake the head, saying, He trusted on the Lord… let Him deliver him, seeing he delighted in Him. 22:7b, 8

What have the prophets spoken? 1. The Sufferings of Christ: Psa. 22:1-21 c. His Mental Suffer- ings :  Be not Thou far from me, O LORD…haste Thee to help me.22:19  Deliver my life from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dogs. 22:20, NIV  Rescue me from the mouth of the lions; save me from the horns of the wild oxen. 22:21, NIV

What have the prophets spoken? 1. The Sufferings of Christ: Psa. 22:1-21 d. His Spiritual Suffer- ings :  O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent. 22:2  Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help. 22:11  My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? 22:1

What have the prophets spoken? I Pet. 1:10, The Sufferings of Christ:Psa. 22: The Glory that should Follow: 22:27-30, NIV  27 All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before Him,  28 for dominion belongs to the LORD and He rules over the nations.  29 All the rich of the earth will feast and worship; all who go down to the dust will kneel before him…  30 Posterity will serve Him; future generations will be told about the Lord.  31 They will proclaim His righteousness to a people yet unborn-- for He has done it.

What have the prophets spoken? I Pet. 1:10, The Sufferings of Christ: Cf. Phil. 2:5-8 …Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, …made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 2. The Glory that should Follow: Cf. Phil. 2:9-11 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow… and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Conclusion: How the Two “Fools” became Wise: And it came to pass, as He (Jesus) sat at meat with them, He took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. And their eyes were opened, and they knew Him. Lk. 24:30, 31  Pertinent Points to Ponder: On this Lord’s Day-Palm Sunday-April Fools’ Day  I Cor. 3:18 If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. (I Cor. 3:18)  Jim Elliot said: He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.
