Conflict of Interest – Why It Matters ILCOR’s Consensus on Science can influence the success of commercial entities: –Drugs, devices, CPR feedback systems, decision support, educational systems, training organizations, journals, publishers… We all share the responsibility for the integrity of the process To keep the trust of the public, rescuers, scientists and policy makers, we are responsible for: –A rigorous review of the published evidence –Unbiased consensus conclusions Disclosure and transparent management are key

COI Management: Before this conference Every participant: completed COI disclosure form Task Force Co-Chairs & EVREVs: were selected to avoid conflicts Good COI management: used for PICOs presented before C2015

COI Management: During C2015 Conference Each participant must: Ensure your COI disclosure is up-to-date Check your disclosure on C2015 website: C2015 Meeting Documents ILCOR C COI Report Ask AHA staff for help Errors? Update at AHA Staff Desk Read ILCOR C2015 Conflict of Interest Policy (on C2015 Meeting Documents) Formally abstain from discussion and any votes if you have a direct commercial conflict

Your COI Number Makes COI Management Easy Whenever you speak (from podium or floor): –State your name and COI number (on badge) –Your COI disclosure slide will be shown COI #: –1-299 = no commercial relationships – = disclosed commercial relationships –> 500 = missing up-to-date COI disclosure: - Please update your COI form at COI Desk - You must verbally disclose every time you speak until your COI disclosure slide is updated - You will be assigned a new number (1-499)

Managing COI Problems in Real Time If you identify a possible COI problem, you can: Raise it with the session Moderator or COI Monitor Raise it with one of the COI leads: Jack Billi ( ) Richard Aickin Brian Eigel Leave a message on the anonymous COI line, ( checked intermittently) Questions or suggestions about COI process? Contact one of the COI leads

Moderator Role in Managing COI In all meetings remind participants: –To state their name and COI number when they speak (If number is 500 or above, must say full disclosure) –To refer to the ILCOR C COI Report –To raise a potential COI issue with the Moderator or COI Monitor Identify the COI Monitor for that session If Moderator or COI Monitor detects a problem, he/she can resolve it or pause the discussion until it is resolved –Contact Jack Billi, Richard Aickin, Brian Eigel (phone number on COI Attestation Form) Note: Use C2015 COI #. (some slides have old COI #)

COI Monitor Role The Session Moderator is responsible for COI issues The COI Monitor’s role is to assist resolving issues and to document problems Specific tasks: –Remind speakers to state name and COI number, if not done –Assist Moderator if a COI issue arises and help is needed –For immediate assistance to resolve a COI issue, contact: Jack Billi ( ) Richard Aickin Brian Eigel ( ) –Records problems or “no issues” on COI Attestation Form and return to AHA staff Phone number listed on COI Attestation Form
