SAMR Model Differentiated Technology Integration Jennifer Simon, ES Tech Specialist American International School Vietnam

SAMR Model Defined The SAMR Model was created by Ruben R. Puentedura, Ph.D. His model differentiates how technology is integrated into educational curriculum. This presentation will break down each level as well as provide examples using Web 2.o applications and lab installed tools.

Substitution This level is the beginning of your integration journey - every journey must begin somewhere and the first step is to experiment with substitutions. What can I use to replace traditional classroom tools such as pen and paper? How can my students practice math concepts at home?

Substitution Tools Hardware Software Digital Camera Document Camera Classroom/Library Reference - online encyclopedias, dictionaries, language translators, thesauruses (Yahoo Education) Maps – Google Maps Illustrations - Paint/KidPix Kid Friendly Search Engines Math Practice – XtraMath, IXL, Khan Academy Reading - K12 OpenEd, Raz Kids Audio Books - MeeGenius Word Processing, Note- taking, Mindmapping - MS Word Hardware Digital Camera Document Camera eReader MP3 Player Laptop/Desktop Interactive Whiteboard (IWB) - Promethean Board Smartphone Tablet Video/Webcam

Augmentation This level is for those who are comfortable with substitutions and are ready to move on to more Web 2.0 tools. How can I change the way I post homework assignments? Is there a tool that can help my students with online research?

Teachers facilitate larger concept projects that encourage higher thinking skills to reinvent or create new media. How can students take their Web 2.o skills to the next level while communicating and collaborating with a global audience?
