GLOSSARY This contains an extensive list of terms and explanations of all video related language that you may need to know. Video Encoding The process for changing a video from one format to another by altering the resolution and/or the bitrate. Normally the result of this process is a movie with a different compression. For a proper encoding you need a piece of software and/or hardware, which is called a codec. Author To format video into a form ready to burn onto a recordable disc or to stream onto the Internet. VCD, SVCD and DVD Author is to format video into it’s standard file structure and also add optional menus, chapters, audio tracks, subtitles, slideshows and much more.

TOOLS We have freeware and shareware you can download, and links to commercial software as well, from all-in-one DVD makers and diagnostic tools to specialty programs.

DO read the Stickies you are having, which software you are using, and the results of all the attempts you’ve tried to fix it yourself in your original post. DO describe in detail the problem when waiting for a response to your post. It may take days before someone qualified can answer it correctly. DO be patient that asking a “what is the best software/method/player” question will not provide you an answer. Responses to this are highly subjective to each person’s opinions and experiences which makes it difficult to get a consensus. DO understand if your problem has been resolved with a final post so that the next person who has the same problem and reads your thread can see which solution it was that worked.
