E&O P3 RERC 1- 01a Mystery of God: I am discovering God's precious gift of life and reflect on how this reveals God's love for me. Core Learning: I can marvel at God’s precious gift of life by observing the great diversity of plant and animal life created by God (Genesis 1: & 20-25) and I can help to care for it. P3 RERC 1-25a OWR: I can recall that, in the Genesis story, God created the earth and everything in it. TIOF pg 111

Teachers notes: You should have looked at this core learning from Mystery of God, perhaps at the beginning of Autumn term. Read the scripture aloud, encourage shared reading, encourage pupils to search for suitable images (teacher led on IWB); encourage pupils to draw an art response, perhaps linking with living things topic, eco-schools, collaborative display project or similar; and then later revisiting core learning with an OWR focus.

E&O P3 RERC 1-26a I am aware of family and community values in the Jewish faith. Core Learning: I can recall that Jesus grew up in a Jewish family. I know that family life is central to Jewish life today. key vocabulary : Jewish, family life TIOF OWR Pg 111

Teacher notes: Make links to the Holy Family (using images), the 4 th and 5 th joyful mysteries of The Rosary: the Presentation of the child Jesus in the Temple; and the Finding of the child Jesus in The Temple; Hours of God P3 RERC 1-14a and recall the narrative of Simeon and Anna (Luke 2: 22-38) Son of God P3 RERC 1-05a The religious ceremonies of the Jewish faith are recognised in these prayer and scripture passages of the life of Jesus.

The presentation of the Child Jesus in the Temple The 4 th Joyful Mystery of the Rosary Luke 2:22-39 NB Link to Simeon and Anna (Luke 2: 22-38) Son of God P3 RERC 1-05a

The finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple The 5 th Joyful Mystery of the Rosary Luke 2:42-52

E&O P3 RERC 1-27a I can identify the places of worship of the Jewish faith community. Core Learning: I can recall from my learning that Jesus went to the synagogue to pray. I know that the Jewish community today worship in a building called a "Synagogue". key vocabulary: Synagogue, worship TIOF OWR Pg 111

(Luke 2: 41-50) The Boy Jesus in the Temple Now every year his parents went to Jerusalem for the festival of the Passover. And when he was twelve years old, they went up as usual for the festival. When the festival was ended and they started to return, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but his parents did not know it. (1 of 3 )

The Boy Jesus in the Temple Assuming that he was in the group of travellers, they went a day’s journey. Then they started to look for him among their relatives and friends. When they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem to search for him. After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. (2of 3 )

The Boy Jesus in the Temple When his parents saw him they were astonished; and his mother said to him, ‘Child, why have you treated us like this? Look, your father and I have been searching for you in great anxiety.’ He said to them, ‘Why were you searching for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?’ But they did not understand what he said to them. (3 of 3 )

E&O P2 RERC 1-06a I have examined some political, social, historical and religious elements in first-century Palestine and gained an understanding of Jesus' life on earth. I know that Jesus was brought up by Mary and Joseph in Nazareth (Luke 2: 39-40) and that they are known as the Holy Family. I know that Jesus had an ordinary Jewish upbringing surrounded by neighbours, cousins and friends. I can recognise that Jesus was Jewish and that He went to the synagogue, a holy building, to pray (Luke 4: 16-22). I know that, as a boy, Jesus went to Jerusalem with his family to celebrate religious festivals. (Luke 2: 41-50) and that we also celebrate religious festivals with our families, such as Christmas and Easter. P2 learning linked to P3 TIOF OWR

The finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple -William Holman Hunt

Garnethill Synagogue 1879 A Jewish place of prayer in Glasgow City Centre

E&O P3 RERC 1-27b I am aware of family and community values in the Jewish faith. Core Learning: I can recall from my learning that Jesus read from the Psalms and the Prophets. I know that the Jewish community still read these texts in their holy book, which is called the "Torah". key vocabulary: Psalms, Prophets, holy book, Torah TIOF OWR Pg 111

The Psalms are the prayers that Jesus prayed. When we pray them we are close to the prayer of Jesus. We pray one of the psalms at every Mass.

I know that Psalms are prayer songs. P1 RERC 0 -01a I know that Jesus read and prayed the Psalms.P2 RERC 1-06a I know that in the Liturgy of the Word at Mass, we pray the same Psalms. P3 RERC1-16a

Jesus read from the Psalms and the Prophets in the Synagogue. With the help of your teacher can you find the Psalms and one of the Prophets in a Bible? Use one of the pictures above to find the Prophets.

The Jewish Holy Book is called the Torah. It contains the Psalms and Prophets. The pages are in one long scroll. Can you make a scroll and write and decorate a line of a psalm?
