Westside Elementary We have about 400 students - K to 5 th grade. We project 100 additional students for next year due to zoning. Title One School Plus One school. (7:55 to 3:00) Extended Day services for after school care. WNA (Westside Night Alive) Summer School Program – on site this year Summer VPK program- on site this summer

Notes: No naps in kindergarten. Breakfast is free for all students. Snacks are provided (at this time) due to Nutrition Grant. Students go to Art, Music, PE, and Media time. We are a PLC School. (Professional Learning Community)
Reading Mastery: Direct Instruction Program Macmillan Treasures: Phonemic Awareness Phonics Vocabulary Fluency Comprehension Writing Reading Interventions Done by the classroom teacher Or…a reading intervention teacher
Envision Math Series 2D shapes 3D shapes Patterns (Repeating and Growing Patterns) Number Sense to 20 (number ID, number sets, more) Grouping and Separating Sets (like addition and subtraction)

“Testing” in Kindergarten Reading Checklists (letter ID, letter sounds, HFW) DRA (Developmental Reading Assessment) Students should be able to read a level 4 or above by the end of the year. Writing Assessment: Based on a writing rubric, students should produce a P3 or above by end of year. Math Checklists: (number ID, number sets, make a pattern, 2D shape ID, 3D shape ID, etc.)
What skills would we like to see … Self help skills (toileting, dressing, opening a milk carton, etc.) Fine motor skills Coloring? Writing their name? Cutting? Gluing? Social Skills Can they use their words? Can they share? Can they take turns? Walk in line? Academic Skills: Know their first and last name? Can they write their name? Can they identify the letters in their name? Can they count to 5…10? Do they know their colors?
What skills might support transitions to Kindergarten? Common music Dr. Jean, Jack Hartman, Hap Palmer, Greg and Steve Nursery Rhymes and fingerplays Traditional nursery rhymes Listening to a story/flannel board stories (increasing attention span )
