“Critical Technologies for European non- dependence ” “Non-dependence”: possibility for Europe to have free, unrestricted access to any required space technology. Joint EC-ESA-EDA task force on Critical Technologies has defined a revised list of urgent actions. Proposals should address topics from this list of 17 items. Space technologies Projects should aim to go beyond current state of art, development activities up to space qualification favoured 8 x 2.5M€

Instruments Horizon 2020 has a flexible range of instruments that can be used from basic research to close to market demonstration. Basis: - Open, competitive call for all EU27 (no geo-return) - Co funding Grants: 100% Research, 70% Close-to-Market - Trans-national European (>3) consortia - Open to international participation (i.e. beyond EU) New in H2020: - prizes, loans, pre-commercial procurement

Part bottom-up, through annual calls in broadly defined topics Part agenda-driven through multi-annual programmes of linked projects: Strategic Research Agenda Widen participation from industry, SMEs, academia, technology institutes, agencies + non-ESA EU countries => CONSULTATION WORKSHOPS December 2012– February 2013 Horizon 2020 implementation
