EMC BACKUP RECOVERY SYSTEMS—Q4 2011 ANNOUNCEMENTS Note to Presenter: Present to customers and prospects to provide them with an overview of Q4 2011 EMC Backup Recovery Systems announcements.

EMC Backup Recovery Systems Q4 2011 Announcements New DD160 appliance New DD620 and DD640 appliances Data Domain Archiver: larger active tier Data Domain Replicator: point-in-time replication There are a four components to this announcement that we’ll review today. First, we’ll discuss new deduplication storage systems for small-to-midsize enterprise data centers: The new entry point to the Data Domain family, the DD160 appliance, along with the new DD620 and DD640 appliances. Next we’ll review new and important Data Domain system enhancements: A larger active tier on the Data Domain Archiver A new point-in-time replication type for Data Domain Replicator software These new EMC Backup and Recovery solutions enable next-generation backup for enterprise data centers small and large. Next-generation backup and recovery for small-to-large enterprise data centers

New Data Domain DD160 Appliance For small enterprise data centers and remote offices Protect up to 4 TB user data Back up 4 TB in less than four hours Supports all Data Domain software options The new Data Domain DD160 appliance for small enterprise data centers and remote offices replaces the DD140 remote office appliance. The DD160 has two configurations—1.6 TB and nearly 4 TB usable capacity. This new entry point to the Data Domain family provides 4.6x more capacity and 2.2x more performance than the DD140, so you can protect up to 4 TB of user data and back up 4 TB in less than four hours. All DD160 appliances include a license for Data Domain Replicator software. In addition, the DD160 now supports RAID 6 and all Data Domain software options—including Data Domain VTL software—making it an enterprise-class Data Domain system for small data centers and remote offices. DD160

New Data Domain DD620 and DD640 For midsize enterprise data centers DD620 Protect up to 8.3 TB user data Back up 8.3 TB in less than four hours DD640 Protect up to 32 TB user data Back up 32.2 TB in less than 10 hours Next, let’s discuss the new systems in the DD600 appliance series—the DD620 and the DD640, which replace the DD610 and DD630 systems, respectively. Highlights of the two new systems include: The DD620, with up to 8.3 TB of usable capacity, is 2.1-times more scalable than its predecessor, the DD610. It’s also 85 percent faster with up to 2.4 TB/hr throughput, enabling you to back up 8.3 TB in less than four hours. The DD640, with up to 32.2 TB of usable capacity, is 3.8x more scalable than its predecessor, the DD630. It’s also 67 percent faster with up to 3.4 TB/hr throughput, enabling you to back up 32.2 TB in less than 10 hours.

Data Domain Archiver Larger active tier 50 percent more capacity in the active tier Up to 142 TB usable capacity Supports larger enterprise data centers, enabling users to: Protect more data Aggregate more data from other Data Domain systems Note: DD Archiver maximum capacity remains 570 TB usable Data Domain Archiver, introduced in Q1 2011, is built for long-term retention of backup and archive. Like all Data Domain systems, DD Archiver includes a controller and storage shelves, but this system has two tiers of storage. The “active tier” is for short-term retention of data (up to 90 days), just like a standard Data Domain system. The active tier can now be expanded to up to 142 TB of usable capacity and the archive tier continues to support the remaining capacity up to a maximum of 570 TB usable for the entire system. The larger active tier enables DD Archiver to support larger enterprise data centers looking to protect more data or aggregate more data from other Data Domain systems.

Data Domain Software Enhancements Granular management of Data Domain systems Data Domain System Logical partition of Data Domain file system = “MTree” (Managed Tree) MTrees enable application-level management of: Snapshots Data Domain Retention Lock Data Domain Replicator MTree MTrees (Managed Trees), introduced in DD OS 5.0, are user-defined logical partitions of the Data Domain file system that enable improved granular management of the Data Domain system. MTrees enable you to segment a Data Domain system at a more granular level, for example, by application workload. Here you see that each MTree is defined to protect data from a specific application—Microsoft Exchange and SharePoint, and Oracle. Once defined, MTrees enable you to use Data Domain software options, such as Data Domain Replicator and Data Domain Retention Lock, as well as snapshots at a more granular level. Data Domain Replicator New point-in-time replication type Source Data Domain System Destination Data Domain System Snapshots ensure point- in-time consistency between sites User-created snapshots automatically replicated to destination MTree Exchange Oracle SharePoint Snapshot Snapshot MTree Specifically, let’s discuss how MTrees enable point-in-time replication with Data Domain Replicator. Note to Presenter: Click now in Slide Show mode for animation. MTrees, introduced in DD OS 5.0, are user-defined logical partitions of the Data Domain file system that enable improved granular management of the Data Domain system. DD OS 5.1 extends this management capability by introducing a new replication type, called MTree replication, that enables users to replicate MTrees between Data Domain systems for point-in-time consistency across sites. Specifically, MTree replication leverages snapshots to ensure that the destination Data Domain system will always be a point-in-time image of the source Data Domain system. System-generated snapshots occur approximately every 15 minutes and are automatically replicated to provide file-level consistency at the disaster recovery site. Just as shown in this slide, once the MTree snapshot is created, the source system will automatically replicate it to the destination. Users can also create application-consistent snapshots (for example, after completion of a backup), which will also be replicated to a disaster recovery location. These user-defined snapshots enable users to verify that their backup job has been completely replicated to the disaster recovery site. MTree replication is a periodic process with the following steps: Source Data Domain system takes a snapshot of the MTree(s), then compares the current snapshot to last snapshot and sends changes to the destination Data Domain system. Destination Data Domain system will make updated MTrees available for recovery as soon as it receives all changes. This process will repeat every time a snapshot is created. This can either be a user-defined snapshot for application consistency or an automatic system-generated snapshot at the default 15-minute interval. Note: Replication will not be triggered until previous replication has completed. Overall, MTree replication further extends Data Domain systems’ market-leading replication flexibility. This new replication type supports all existing replication topologies including one-to-one, one-to-many, many- to-one, bi-directional, and cascaded. No one else offers the flexibility in replication deployment options as Data Domain Replicator. Note to Presenter: In this release, MTree replication is not available for Data Domain customers using the Data Domain Virtual Tape Library software option or NDMP connectivity.
