5 NFHS 2012 Rule Changes Rule (Center Line at Midfield)  A bold white line shall be marked through the center of the field perpendicular to the sideline (solid or shadow line through logos) Need to know the exact location of the centerline Failure results in illegal procedure Rule (Manufactured End Caps)  All hollow crosses must have an end cap manufactured for a lacrosse stick Illegal crosse removed from game at the next whistle under corrected

6 NFHS 2012 Rule Changes Rule (Faceoff Set Up Position)  Crosses and gloves must rest on ground along center line parallel to each other, up to, but not touching center line Player may not back out once official initiates faceoff positioning Rule (Faceoff Parameters)  Illegal to kick, step on or intentionally place any other body part on crosse or opponents crosse  Illegal to use crosse to hold or pin down opponent’s crosse

7 NFHS 2012 Rule Changes Rule (Airborne Player)  Location of airborne player is the same as at the time such player was last in contact with the field or an extension of the field Rule (Ball Caught in Lost Crosse)  Immediate whistle and turnover when player loses his crosse and ball remains in or under the head of the crosse

8 NFHS 2012 Rule Changes Rule (Too Few Players)  Team not offsides with too few players on either end of field if no advantage gained by player(s) in question off field Rule (Advancing to Goal Area)  Team has 10 seconds to bring ball into goal area After crossing center line with possession After initially gaining possession in offensive half After regaining possession in offensive half following defensive possession

9 NFHS 2012 Rule Changes Rule (Official’s Timeout for Injury)  Injured player must be replaced but can substitute back into game after next dead ball Rule 4-34 (Get It In/Keep It In)  “Get it in/keep it in” command issued “Get it in” warning when ball outside goal area -10 seconds to get it in and keep it in goal area “Keep it in” when ball is inside goal area and must stay ‘Get it in/Keep it in” applies in last two minutes when not tied Stalling (See Rule 6-10)

10 NFHS 2012 Rule Changes Rule 5-3 (Clarification on Body Checks)  Illegal to body check player without possession, beyond 5 yards of a loose ball, or from the rear or below the waist If a player about to be checked turns to avoid legal check, there is no foul Rule 5-4 (Checks to the Head/Neck)  Illegal to initiate contact to an opponent’s head or neck with any body part or crosse including follow- through; a 1- to 3-min. non-releasable foul results

11 NFHS 2012 Rule Changes Rule 5-11 (Fouling Out)  Player with 5 minutes of personal fouls is disqualified; not an ejection Rule (Stalling)  Team in possession must attack the goal Judgment of the officials No specific time for foul to occur

12 NFHS 2012 Rule Changes Rule (Stalling)  Team in possession in offensive half may be warned to “get it in/keep it in” if not attacking goal 10-sec. count to bring ball in goal area; must stay in Defense must attempt to play ball in goal area In effect until ball leaves goal area except shot/deflection

20 USLYC 2012 Rule Changes Rule 1-12 (Sideline Managers)  Team shall provide adult sideline manager  Not game day rule to be enforced by officials Rule 3-1 (Length of Game)  U15 & U13 – 10-min. stop-start quarters  U11 – 8-min. stop-start or 12-min. running time quarters  U9 – 12-Min. running time quarters

21 USLYC 2012 Rule Changes Rule 4-14 &15 (Advancing the Ball)  U15 & U13 – 20-sec./10-sec. counts to be used  U11 & U9 – No advancement enforced 3-Yard Rule  Checks & legal holds must be within 3 yards of a loose ball (Change from 5 yards)  Does not apply to player distance on restarts

22 USLYC 2012 Rule Changes Rule 5 (Personal & Ejection Fouls)  Stricter enforcement at youth level expect as compared to high school level No Take Out Body Checks  Defined: check when player lowers head/shoulders with force & intent to put other player on ground  Checks that are more aggressive or physical than necessary or to player in defenseless position

26 WALOA 2012 Points of Emphasis Concussion Prevention  Contact to an opponent’s head and player leading with his helmet will result in maximum penalty Bench Area Protocol (Harpole Precedent)  Coaches to remain in coach’s area at all times (except U9 Modified)  No coaches permitted on field including timeouts Sportsmanship  Officials to take all necessary measures to eliminate inappropriate conduct
