INTRODUCTION Faculty of 1000 (http://f1000.com) is the publisher of four unique services that support and inform the work of life scientists and clinicians. F1000Prime and F1000Trials provide a layer of expert opinion and guidance on published articles. F1000Research and F1000Posters present original and useful work via open access websites that encourage transparency, sharing and debate.

Subscription Services Open Access Services INTRODUCTION Faculty of 1000 publishes four services for life scientists and clinicians: http://f1000.com/prime http://f1000research.com http://f1000.com/trials http://f1000.com/posters Subscription Services Open Access Services

What is f1000Prime? F1000Prime is an in-depth directory of top articles in biology and medicine, as recommended by our Faculty of over 5,000 expert scientists and clinical researchers, assisted by 5,000 associates. The service covers over 40 disciplines and more than 3,500 journals. Articles are rated and expert commentaries explain their importance. http://f1000.com/prime/about/whatis

What is f1000Prime? Launched in 2002, F1000Prime was conceived as a collaboration of 1,000 international Faculty Members. The name stuck even though the Faculty and remit of the services continues to grow. Faculty recommendations and comments form a fully searchable database, containing more than 140,000 records (as of June 2013), which aims to identify the best research available. On average, 1,500 new recommendations are contributed by the Faculty each month.

How is the Faculty organized? 32 Faculties each with 2-4 Heads of Faculty Faculty 5-14 Sections per Faculty each with 2-4 Section Heads Section Section Section Over 200 Sections with circa 5,000 Faculty Members (FMs) and 5,000 Associate FMs Topic Topic Topic Topic Topic Topic Topic Topic Topic http://f1000.com/prime/thefaculty

F1000prime features – summary Faculty Members (FMs) select, rate and comment on the most interesting and important research articles (2-3% of the life science literature) FMs assign one of three positive ratings: Exceptional (3 stars), Very Good (2 stars) or Good (1 star) Relevant classifications added (e.g. changes clinical practice) FMs’ recommendation text is a short, expert, plain English recommendation written for a global readership Articles are ranked by F1000Prime scores and browse-able by section Customized searching and alerting with MyF1000

F1000prime reports F1000Prime Reports is an open access journal that expands on the recommended literature coverage of F1000Prime by publishing unique, peer-reviewed reports to provide context on emerging themes in biology and medicine. F1000Prime Section Heads ensure coverage of the latest advances by selecting topics and nominating authors. The journal is indexed and/or abstracted by PubMed, PubMed Central, Scopus, Embase, Global Health and CAB Abstracts. Nearly 500 reports published (May 2013). Prior to March 2013, F1000Prime Reports was published as two journals: F1000 Biology Reports and F1000 Medicine Reports. http://f1000.com/prime/reports/browse

f1000Trials F1000Trials (http://f1000.com/trials/) identifies all the clinical trials and systematic reviews published in over 200 general medical and specialist journals. Faculty Members evaluate all trials within days of publication, rating and recommending studies of particular significance. Complete listing of randomized controlled trials, early phase studies, systematic reviews and meta-analyses Faculty Members review and provide commentary on trial articles Most important studies assigned an F1000Prime star rating Threaded publication trail links all studies about a particular trial using its unique trial identifier Beta launched 2013

Features of f1000Trials Systematic coverage of the key general and specialist journals across all areas of medicine An essential second opinion on randomized controlled trials, early phase studies and systematic reviews, from over 500 core experts. Most important studies assigned an F1000Prime star rating Threaded publication trail linking articles resulting from a registered trial via the unique trial registration number. Cross indexing of articles to facilitate discovery of relevant studies published in journals in adjacent fields Personalized alerts of recent articles by type and F1000 classification.

Beta launched in 2013

Publication within a week All data included What is F1000Research? F1000Research is a completely original open access journal for life scientists; it offers rapid publication, transparent peer review (post publication) and full data deposition and sharing.
