SkyWave IsatM2M Building Blocks Inmarsat Satellites 1) SkyWave IsatM2M Service Land Earth Station (LES) © 2007 SkyWave Mobile Communications Inc.

Land Earth Station (LES) State-of-the-art equipment by SED Systems No longer on shared 10-year old equipment Burum, Netherlands AORW, AORE, IOR Auckland, New Zealand POR, PACC 24x7 Monitoring and Support by Stratos © 2007 SkyWave Mobile Communications Inc.

Message Options From-Terminal To-Terminal Burst: 10 bytes Use all 10 bytes: “transparent” message* Only use 9 bytes: “custom” position/status report Only use 8 bytes: “standard” position/status report Extended Burst: 25 bytes “transparent” message* To-Terminal 0-100 bytes user-defined message Optional Terminal Acknowledgement Request LES Acknowledgement * Transparent messages generated by external controller via RS232 © 2007 SkyWave Mobile Communications Inc.

Position/Status Message Size “Standard poll” messages built into DMR and SureLinx for ease of use 8 bytes contain basic position, I/O, status 1 byte Destination Address can be used for message routing Adds flexibility – e.g. emergency messages processed by different server vs normal 1 byte Message Descriptor Improves application efficiency – message labels distinguish events Increases security – indicates if message generated by DMR or external device “Custom poll” messages can be defined by customer Use up to 9 bytes (including Destination Address) Transparent messages generated by external controller Can use full 10 or 25 bytes payload Mobile applications can only use 25 bytes between +/- 50 latitude Fixed applications “point” the antenna to use 25 bytes anywhere © 2007 SkyWave Mobile Communications Inc.

Latency Latency is seen in two cases: Poll/response: Control station sends a message to-terminal and gets a reply From-terminal: Terminal or external controller generates & sends message Normal operation and wakeup operation are different IsatM2M enhancements relative to D+: 4x faster frame-rate (30s instead of 2 minutes) Terminals do not need to return to Bulletin Board in most cases (saves up to 4 minutes on wakeup) Latency D+ IsatM2M Poll/response ~ 6 min ~ 3 min From-terminal – normal operation ~ 2 min < 1 min From-Terminal – wakeup from sleep* ~ 5 min ~ 1 min * Non-GPS IsatM2M terminals will take as long as D+ © 2007 SkyWave Mobile Communications Inc.

Benchmarking D+ vs IsatM2M From Empirical tests AORW: Test Case D+ IsatM2M “Normal” return 2:11 0:55 “Immediate” return 0:16 0:07 To-terminal (Forward queue) 3:37 (2:30) 0:47 (0:35) Round-trip (“normal” return) 5:38 1:24 Round-trip (“immediate” rtn) 3:59 1:22 © 2007 SkyWave Mobile Communications Inc.

Billing Add IsatM2M service to an existing plan New minimum monthly fee for IsatM2M terminals No change to existing D+ pricing New simplified plans available To-Terminal messages simplified $ Base + $/Byte, 0-100 bytes (no small/large) All equivalent to D+ “high” priority From-Terminal messages simplified Alarm messages billed as 3x normal © 2007 SkyWave Mobile Communications Inc.

SkyWave IsatM2M Building Blocks Inmarsat Satellites GPS Satellites 2) SkyWave Versa Gateway Land Earth Station (LES) Internet © 2007 SkyWave Mobile Communications Inc.

Versa Gateway Values Highly reliable and secure Easy-to-use Fully redundant, housed in secure data centre 24 x 7 monitoring with event notifications SSL encryption between Versa and SP server Easy-to-use Web-based administration Consolidates D+ and GPRS traffic Flexible message delivery © 2007 SkyWave Mobile Communications Inc.

Message Handling (MHS) Versa Gateway Administration Internet Message Handling (MHS) Billing Control Stations SP Server(s) Versa Gateway manages: Message Handling with terminals (sessions, ack., etc) Administration (activate, de-activate, label, etc) Billing records (by customer/group) SP server access (send/receive, broadcast) Replication, backup and recovery for all subsystems © 2007 SkyWave Mobile Communications Inc.

Versa Features and Benefits Message Status Notifications SP Application knows when to re-send messages Auxiliary control stations Enhance reliability and generate new revenue GTM/GPRS support Simplifies D+/GPRS integration Terminal group management Easy billing separation by customer or application Broadcast/multicast Send messages to groups of terminals in the field © 2007 SkyWave Mobile Communications Inc.

Versa Gateway Details Single server interface for all service options DAP, DAP-XML No change for D+ and IsatM2M 10-byte messages Minor update for IsatM2M 25-byte message Messages exchanged via Control Station “Mailbox” like functionality SP server acts as “client” to submit & retrieve From-terminal messages can be delivered to multiple control stations To-terminal messages can be broadcast to multiple terminals © 2007 SkyWave Mobile Communications Inc.

SkyWave IsatM2M Building Blocks Inmarsat Satellites GPS Satellites Land Earth Station (LES) Internet 3) SP Server Application © 2007 SkyWave Mobile Communications Inc.

SP Server Application Testing: Message Service enables quick-start Simple database (SQL) interface for application Works easily with terminal developer tools Not intended for production use Production: Interface to Versa via DAP DAPC API, specifications included in SkyWave SDK Decode/encode “standard” position/status reports Platform support: Win32 using Visual Studio 2003 or above UNIX using gcc 2.95 or above Existing customer’s application Update required for 25-byte from-terminal message © 2007 SkyWave Mobile Communications Inc.
