Optimized Audio presents from the World Leader in Transmission Audio Processing

Optimum Technologies Competition is good. It keeps you on your toes. It makes you better at whatever you do, whether your business is running radio stations or making audio processors.

OPTIMOD-FM 2300 OPTIMOD-FM 2300 builds on the 2200’s sound, adding stereo enhancement, more powerful equalization, anti-aliased clipping, composite limiting and full remote control facilities. AES/EBU digital input and output is standard, as is clock-based automation. Switching between “Two-Band Normal” and “Two-Band Purist” processing is gap-free. 3

OPTIMOD-FM 2300 Its versatility makes the 2300 work well with any format. The 2300’s optimized technology ensures unusually high average modulation and coverage for a given level of subjective quality. The 2300’s superb stereo encoder and composite limiter help deliver a transmitted signal that’s always immaculately clean and perfectly peak limited, with full protection of sub-carriers and RDS/RBDS regardless of the amount of composite limiting. 4

OPTIMOD-FM 2300 V2.0 software allows you to use the 2300 as a dedicated, ultra-high-performance stereo encoder with internal sample-rates from 64 kHz to 512 kHz. Changing modes from “audio processor” to “stereo encoder” only takes a second. Any 2300 can be upgraded to V2 software via a free Internet download. 5

OPTIMOD-FM 2300 2300V2 is ideal for large network broadcasters who need local audio processing at some transmitters and overshoot-limited stereo encoding at other transmitters. The 2300V2 can be immediately reconfigured for either application, allowing these broadcasters to standardize on one model. This simplifies staff training and keeps spares inventory to a minimum. 6

OPTIMOD-FM 2300 If you’re concerned about latency because you need to feed live talent headphones off air, you’ll be pleased to know that the 2300’s processing has only about 5 ms delay, which will keep talent happy. Advanced Processing for FM Stations with High Aspirations & Modest Budgets! 7

OPTIMOD-FM 5300 OPTIMOD-FM 5300 is a mid-priced processor with many of the advanced technological features first developed for Orban's 8400. In fact, the 5300 will run any 8400 Low Latency preset. 8

OPTIMOD-FM 5300 For the first time, you can get competitive OPTIMOD five-band processing in a single rack unit package at an affordable price. Like all OPTIMODs, its architecture yields outstanding source-to-source consistency. This means that you can set your 5300 to create your signature sound, and the 5300 will hold that sound even with widely varying program material. 9

OPTIMOD-FM 5300 5300 features three processing structures: Optimum Five-Band (or “Multiband”; 15 ms delay) for a consistent, “processed” sound, free from undesirable side effects, Low-Latency Five-Band (5 ms delay) for environments where talent monitors live off-air and they object to the delay of Optimum Five-Band, and Two-Band for a transparent sound that preserves the frequency balance of the original program material. 10

and speech is always clean. OPTIMOD-FM 5300 The 5300 shares a considerable amount of technology with Orban's 8400, including advanced look-ahead distortion control and a patented composite limiter so powerful that it makes composite clippers seem quaint. That creates a superb balance between speech and music, and speech is always clean. 11

OPTIMOD-FM 8300 OPTIMOD-FM 8300 is Orban's lowest price FM HD processor with many of the sound processing features that were previously available only to 8400 or 8500 owners. 12

OPTIMOD-FM 8300 Version 2.0 Software Adds netcast/digital radio/HD processing for the 5-Band and 2-Band modes. This processing is created by driving the output of the 5-band or 2-band compressor into a look-ahead limiter. The AES3 output can be switched to emit the HD-processed signal. 13

OPTIMOD-FM 8300 Version 2.0 Software Adds a three-mode bass clipper (Soft, Medium and Hard). Adds look-ahead to 5-band compressor with the option to turn it on, turn it off, or have it automatically switched on for speech and off for music. 14

OPTIMOD-FM 8300 Version 2.0 Software Adds several new “MX” presets that exploit the new audio processing features. By exploiting the 8300’s new signal processing features, Version 2.0 lets the 8300 import OPTIMOD-FM 8400 User Presets more accurately. 15

Advanced FM processing, made affordable! OPTIMOD-FM 8300 Exceptional versatility allows you to adjust the processor’s audio texture to brand your sound, knowing that the resulting signature sound will remain consistent, cut-to-cut and source-to-source. Advanced FM processing, made affordable! 16

OPTIMOD-FM 8500 OPTIMOD 8500 is Orban's new flagship FM processor. It builds on the successful sound of the 8400 version 3 by doubling the sample-rate and DSP horsepower while adding new features. Processing for HD Radio, digital radio and netcasts is built-in and offers 20 kHz audio bandwidth. 17

OPTIMOD-FM 8500 An eight-second diversity delay lets you use the 8500's stereo coder and new second-generation “Half-Cosine Interpolation” composite limiter to achieve unprecedented analog FM loudness. Plus, a new set of speech-mode controls let you fine-tune the processing independently for music and speech. 18

OPTIMOD-FM 8500 Because the analog and digital channels share most of the processing, they always have the same processing texture, so your signature sound is intact. But the digital channel uses optimized look-ahead peak limiting to create a cleaner, brighter and punchier sound that sells the benefits of HD Radio to the mass audience. 19

OPTIMOD-FM 8500 HD radio's big advantage is that its digital channel isn't crippled by the pre-emphasis that destroys high frequency headroom in FM. When your listeners hear the digital channel, they can hear modern mixes with all elements intact — but only if you've correctly processed your audio specifically for the digital channel. 20

OPTIMOD-FM 8500 With 8500 HD FM peak limiting, the mass audience can hear a dramatic difference in punch and sparkle between the digital and analog channels. Yet both channels still have your signature audio texture, with the same stereo enhancement, AGC, EQ and multiband compression. 21

OPTIMOD-AM 9400 Until now, if you wanted an AM audio processor that provided no-compromise, independent, multiband processing for analog AM and digital radio (like iBiquity’s HD-AM™ system), you had to buy two boxes. 22

OPTIMOD-AM 9400 Orban’s OPTIMOD-AM 9400 changes all that by offering two independently adjustable processing chains: One for the analog channel and one for the digital channel. 23

OPTIMOD-AM 9400 The only processing common to the two channels is the AGC and stereo enhancer. Beyond this front-end processing, you get two of everything: equalizer, five-band compressor/limiter and peak limiter, each optimized for its intended transmission channel. 24

OPTIMOD-AM 9400 For example, the analog-chain peak limiter uses Orban’s exclusive multiband distortion-cancelled clipper and overshoot compensator, while the digital chain uses an advanced, low-IM look-ahead limiter to make the most of low bit-rate codecs. Moreover, both processing chains are stereo, making the 9400 ideal for C-QUAM® installations. This is truly one AM processor that does it all. 25

OPTIMOD-AM 9400 However, the analog and digital five-band compressor/limiters require very different thresholds and time constants. Appropriate equalization settings and peak limiting technologies are very different as well. That’s why the 9400 is essentially two processors in one. 26

OPTIMOD-AM 9400 Thanks to its unified design, the 9400 costs substantially less than a two-box configuration. It is also easier to control — you only have to program the time-of-day automation once and you only need one set of remote control connections. Yet the 9400 has everything necessary to provide optimum processing for both channels. 27

No-Compromise all-in-one processing OPTIMOD-AM 9400 The 9400 distills all of Orban’s experience into the best OPTIMOD-AM ever. Regardless of whether you have a major-market station or just want your station to sound like one, OPTIMOD-AM 9400 is right for you. No-Compromise all-in-one processing for analog AM and digital radio channels. 28

OPTIMOD 6300 The 6300 is a high-quality, multipurpose stereo audio processor for digital radio, digital television, netcasts, STL protection, audio production and digital mastering. With 20 kHz audio bandwidth and 48 kHz internal sample-rate, the 6300 is the next generation Orban’s popular OPTIMOD-DAB 6200 audio processor while offering improved processing algorithms and more flexibility. For video applications, broadcasters can activate the 6300’s included CBS Loudness Controller™ to prevent audience irritation and tune-outs caused by loud commercials. 29

OPTIMOD 6300 The 6300 incorporates Orban’s new PreCode™ technology, which pre-processes audio to minimize audible artifacts in low bit-rate codecs such as the iBiquity HDC codec used in HD Radio™. Several of the 6300’s presets exploit this technology to provide “plug and play” processing at low bit-rates. 30

OPTIMOD 6300 The 6300’s AGC uses the same dual-band, window-gated, matrix technology as the AGCs in Orban’s 2300, 5300, 8300, 8382, 8400, 8500, 9300 and 9400 OPTIMODs. It can therefore accurately substitute for the AGCs in these devices. Because the 6300’s AGC is more advanced than the AGCs in Orban’s 2200, 8200 and 9200 OPTIMOD units, the 6300 can upgrade the performance of these older products when substituted their AGCs. 31

OPTIMOD 6300 Other important new features include soft knee and compression ratio controls for each of the bands in the multiband compressor/limiter. This allows mastering and production engineers to apply very subtle multiband compression while retaining as much of the original source’s dynamics as desired. 32

OPTIMOD 6300 The 6300 employs mastering quality equalizers and crossover filters throughout. The three-band parametric equalizer’s curves accurately emulate an analog parametric equalizer, while a parametric low-frequency shelving equalizer with 6, 12 or 18 dB/octave slopes allows a user to add bass punch without muddiness. 33

OPTIMOD 6300 Not only will the 6300 offer higher quality in traditional 6200 applications, but its versatile routing, new features and immaculate signal path will open up new applications and markets in broadcast and professional audio. 34

OPTIMOD-TV 8382 The all-digital OPTIMOD-TV 8382 audio processor can help you achieve excellent audio quality and loudness consistency in analog television broadcasting that uses FM aural-carriers with 75 µs or 50 µs pre-emphasis. 35

OPTIMOD-TV 8382 Designed specifically for the demands of television audio, the programmable OPTIMOD-TV 8382 digital audio processor meets all requirements of the various mono, stereo and dual-language systems in use around the world. 36

OPTIMOD-TV 8382 The 8382 controls program dynamics to maintain a comfortable range for the typical home viewer, and using its built-in CBS Loudness Controller™, it tames subjective loudness to prevent commercials from becoming overly obtrusive. 37

OPTIMOD-TV 8382 OPTIMOD-TV 8382 is fully compatible with all monaural and stereo broadcast systems: BTSC, NICAM, EIAJ and IEC dual-carrier. In addition to its usual stereo mode, it can be operated in dual-mono mode to accommodate dual-language programming and it can switch between stereo and dual-mono modes without mutes or interruptions in the program. 38

OPTIMOD-TV 8382 The 8382 is remote controllable via eight programmable GPI ports, which can be used to recall presets and change operating modes. It is also equipped for remote control via RS232 serial or Ethernet ports, and it comes with a full-featured remote control application that runs on Windows 2000 or XP. 39

OPTIMOD-TV 8382 Finally, the 8382 features the ability to have its input AES3 “channel mode” bits determine its operating mode (stereo or dual-mono), and it can send this information to downstream equipment via the AES3 connection. Industry-Standard Digital Processing for Analog TV — Now Network Ready. 40

OPTIMOD-PC 1100 V2 The new OPTIMOD-PC 1100V2 is a professional PCI sound card with on-board DSP that provides stereo enhancement, programmable equalization, multiband dynamics processing and low-IM look-ahead limiting/processing essentially to equivalent that found in the digital radio processing channel of Orban’s OPTIMOD-FM 8500 stand-alone processor. 41

OPTIMOD-PC 1100 V2 Compatible with PCs running Windows 2000 and XP, OPTIMOD-PC tailors your audio signal to help it compete in digital audio broadcasting (such as Eureka 147 and HD2 channels in HD Radio facilities), satellite uplink, Internet netcasting and recording/mastering applications. 42

OPTIMOD-PC 1100 V2 A new API provides complete remote administration over TCP/IP. It’s ideal for automating commercial insertion in netcasts. 43

OPTIMOD-PC 1100 V2 To implement the API, the OPTIMOD-PC Service application hosts a TCP/IP terminal server to allow external control of the OPTIMOD-PC cards from either a Telnet/SSH client or a custom third party application. All OPTIMOD-PC Mixer and System Controls are accessible and all commands are simple text strings. Password security is provided. 44

OPTIMOD-PC 1100 V2 Whether you choose 5-band or 2-band processing, the signal path is phase-linear to ensure the most transparent sound possible. The 1100V2’s new low-IM look-ahead limiter is dramatically louder and more transparent than V1’s limiter. 45
