UCS Central

Unified KVM Launcher KVM launch from any screen will allow a connection to any valid KVM IP address on that system (IPv4 Inband, IPv6 Inband, IPv4 Out of Band)

Precision Boot Order Control Boot policy now supports additional options including Local Drives, SD Card, Remote Virtual Device, etc. Requires UCS Manager 2.2(2c), UCS Manager 3.0(1) or later.

Fault Summary Display Enhancements Top panel has been improved to show critical information in a rotating pane. UCS Domain Fault Summary : Similar to previous functionality UCS Central Fault Summary : New in UCS Central Release 1.2 Shows UCS Central faults Pending Changes Summary : New in UCS Central Release 1.2 Shows Pending UCS Central acknowledgements

Improved Remote Site Network Connections UCS Central to UCS Manager communication is tested and supported with the equivalent of a basic consumer grade DSL connection 1.5 Mbps minimum bandwidth to remote site 500 ms maximum latency Improved handling of temporary disconnects to remote sites Improved file transfer using http instead of NFS – applicable to UCS Manager 3.0(1) and later

Why Should Customers Use UCS Central? Feature Functions Benefit Information Dashboard Centralized hardware inventory, centralized faults/logs, and up to one year of statistics across UCS Mini and Classic UCS domains Improved visibility across local and remote domains reduces the administrative time to monitor, troubleshoot, inventory, and do capacity planning Centralized Backup Scheduled backup of UCS Manager and UCS Central instances. Automated backups to a central location improves resiliency with minimal administrative impact Administrative Configuration Cross-domain administrative settings and cross-domain ID pools that new UCS Manager instances have access to upon registration Set up new domains in minutes with limited administrative effort while maintaining cross-domain consistency saving hours of set up time per domain. Operational Control Global policies and settings that can deployed and enforced across domains Policy and settings standardization and enforcement across domains helps ensure compliance, reduces configuration issues, and reduces troubleshooting time. Workload Mobility Global Service Profiles with optional site specific settings for localization Consistent deployments across UCS domains with the flexibility to quickly provision, de-provision, or move workloads between servers or domains.

UCS Director

Cisco UCS Director Dramatically streamlines delivery of data center infrastructure Reduces steps to provision new infrastructure by 88.4%1 IT silos migrate to unified provisioning & management Delivers consistency & speed to business Principled Technologies, “Simplify server provisioning with Cisco UCS Director, December, 2014”

UCS Director Value UCS Director Acts as orchestra conductor across: compute, network, storage & virtualization Replaces manual management of each layer with automated workflows Helps to remove silos from IT teams and IT resources IT manages data center resources as single “team” with unified management Across physical and virtual resources Unfettered IT admins can now focus on new services for business

Cisco UCS Director Positioning INTELLIGENT AUTOMATION FOR CLOUD Cloud management – private, public, hybrid cloud UCS DIRECTOR Unified infrastructure Automation for compute, storage, network – physical & virtual Heterogeneous & Integrated Infrastructure APIC Manages Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) and Nexus fabric Multiple UCS domains UCS CENTRAL Single UCS domain UCS MANAGER

UCS Director with UCS Manager and UCS Central UCS Director with multiple UCS Manager instances UCS Director with UCS Central Hardware Inventory Inventory collected on a domain by domain basis Centralized inventory including domain groups and sub-groups collected from a single UCS Central source Creation of ID pools One or more domain specific ID pools One global ID pool that spans domains Policy Creation Create server, network, and storage polices in each domain Create server, network and storage policies that span multiple domains for consistency Service Profiles & Templates One or more domain specific Service Profiles or Templates One Service Profile or template that is available across domains Service Profile Mobility Migrate Service Profile to another server in the same domain Migrate Service Profile to another server in a different domain

UCS Director and UCS Central Usage Examples Use UCS Director to automate the registration of new UCS Manager instances with UCS Central Use UCS Director to create Global ID pools, global policies, and Global Service Profile Templates in UCS Central. UCS Director calls UCS Central to provision a Global Service Profile using Global ID pools, global policies, and a Global Service Profile template. UCS Director also executes other workflows in sequence to provision storage, network, hypervisor, and OS in addition to setting up the UCS environment. UCS Director calls UCS Central to re-assign a Global Service Profile to another server in a different UCS domain in the same data center. UCS Director calls UCS Central to re-assign a Global Service Profile to a different server in a different data center. UCS Director runs other workflows in proper sequence to ensure that storage, network, hypervisor, OS and other settings are set correctly.
