FORECASTING CLASS OF 2016 Incoming Juniors GRESHAM HIGH SCHOOL

WELCOME ! It’s time to forecast and choose your classes for next year. Here are the steps you will follow…

Forecasting: Step by Step 1. Use Course Planning Guide 2. Discuss with parents, teachers, others 3. Fill in forecast sheet 4. Get signatures 5. Meet with counselor as needed 6. Turn in form to teacher by due date

Graduation Credit Requirements Language Arts 4.00 Social Studies 3.00 Math 3.00 Science 3.00 World Language1.00 Physical Ed1.00 Health1.00 Career/Fine Arts/Tech *2.00 Electives 7.00 Total Credits Required: credit must be earned in Technology *may be earned in tech, fine arts, business electives.50 credit must be earned in Technology *may be earned in tech, fine arts, business electives

How many classes do I take? Freshmen = 7 Classes Sophomores = 7 classes Juniors take at least 6 classes. Seniors take at least 5 classes.

Remember: Honor Roll requires 6 graded classes. Any class taken for Pass/No Pass credit will not count. Examples: Aide, Credit by Proficiency, etc. Athletics requires passing 5 classes & being on track to graduate

Additional Graduation Requirements : Academic Portfolio State test scores and work samples in: Math, Writing, Speaking, Science, and Social Science. Four Year Plan Created in the freshman year, updated each year by the student, used to guide forecasting. Extended Application Completed in senior year within your health class 2 Career Related Learning Experiences (CRLE) Opportunities for CRLE’s are offered in Health and advanced elective classes. Bring completed forms to Ms. Cooke in the College & Career Center.

General University Requirements Oregon universities require: 4 credits of English 3 credits of Mathematics (must show completion of Algebra 2 or higher by graduation) 3 credits of Science 3 credits of Social Studies

College Entrance Requirements World Language—2 credits in same language Minimum “C” grade for core courses.5 credit in a Visual/Performing Fine Arts class is recommended

Additional College Requirements Minimum grade point averages for admission: 3.00 for U of O, OSU, PSU, OIT, SOU 2.75 for EOU, WOU Additional review may be required by the college. Universities also require ACT/SAT test scores.

International Baccalaureate (IB) IB is the most advanced course of study offered at GHS in six different subject areas during junior and senior year. IB Program Options: Earn a full IB diploma  Recommended honors level classes:  9 th Grade: Honors Geography  10 th Grade: Honors English, Math, Social Studies, & Science Earn college credit (take IB tests) Full IB students also need 4 years of World Language.

Center for Advanced Learning (CAL) CAL offers advanced courses in 5 technology- based fields for juniors and seniors : Digital Media (Graphic Design & Video) Programming & Networking Medical/Dental Engineering Manufacturing

Center for Advanced Learning (CAL) Students apply and are accepted based on grades & interests. Students will take four classes, including English at CAL. Math, Social Studies, PE and Health taken at GHS. Questions? See Susan Fields in the Counseling office

A.C.E. Academy The ACE Academy offers three areas of education: Architecture, Construction and Engineering. Students will learn all areas in their junior year. A focus on one of the three areas in your senior year. Two year program, students attend junior and senior years

A.C.E. Academy Each student will experience hands- on projects in the “design and build industry.” Students can earn entry into advanced and apprenticeship training programs. Questions? See Mrs. Blaser in the Counseling office

Forecast Process 1. Receive forecast sheet from teacher 2. Fill in personal information, counselor, and due date 3. Select required classes 4. Select electives and alternate choices 5. Get signatures 6. Return to teacher by due date.

Forecast Sheet After you have completed the personal data section, Mark core course selections with an “X” Mark alternates with A1, A2, and A3 in order of preference. Note: You may get an alternate so choose carefully. Choose classes for English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and PE. Get signatures of teachers as indicated. Include parent/guardian signature

Remember: Aides: One period per semester Requires teacher’s signature Cannot aide during teacher’s prep time

ALERT! Talk with parents, teachers and counselor before choosing your classes. Choose very carefully. Schedule changes are almost impossible. IB level courses will not be changed.
