The Code was enforced for many years until the 1960s. The films of the 60s started to bring up subjects that were not allowed for many years. By 1968, the Hays Code was abolished and MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America ) was created to start the rating system. The picture on the left features the first X rated film to win best picture Midnight Cowboy in 1969.
