1. The impersonal passive contruction in English is as follows. Meat is sold at the butcher shop.

2. In Spanish the pronoun se can be used to express the impersonal passive voice. Note that if the subject is singular, the verb is singular. If the subject is plural, note the verb is plural. The 3 part construction is- Se+verb+subject

We don’t know WHO sells… so the subject is the WHAT they are selling! Se vende carne.= Meat is sold here Se venden legumbres. = Vegetables are sold here **Ellos venden carne. = They sell meat.

3. Se can be used to convey (or translated as) the general subject, one, they, and people.

English is spoken. Se habla inglés

Fish is sold. Se vende pescado.

Sweaters are sold. Se venden suéteres.

A sweater is sold. Se vende un suéter.

Allí ellos venden carne. Allí se vende carne.

También ellos venden mariscos. También se venden mariscos.

Pero allí ellos no hablan español. Pero allí no se habla español.
